First Slumber Party

It is New Years Eve and mommy and daddy decided to stay home and relax tonight with Jacob.  We had a full weekend.  Friday, Jacob went to his music class.  His friends Drew and Christian are also in the class.  The class was not everything we expected it to be, but Jacob had a good time dancing and hanging out with his friends.  Later that afternoon his friend Christian came over to play.  Amazingly, Christian started officially walking at our house.  That was pretty cool.  In the evening, Christian's daddy met us at our house and we all went out to dinner.  The boys were good at dinner and had fun playing the maracas for us.

Saturday mommy and daddy went to a UCLA basketball game so Nani and Papa watched Jacob.  Jacob actually stayed the night with them.  That was his first time away from both mommy and daddy for the night.  He had a great time with them and I don't think he even realized we weren't there.  They even bought a new crib for Jacob to sleep in, which we are told he slept in almost the entire night.  Apparently he didn't go into their bed until 4:30 in the morning, but I guess we'll never really know the truth on that one.  Mommy and Daddy missed Jacob so much.  I kept waking up throughout the night thinking I heard him, but then realized he wasn't even there.  We woke up in the morning and didn't know what to do without Jacob waking us up and coming to play with us in bed.

Sunday morning we went to pick up Jacob and then Jacob and I went to South Coast Plaza to the Rainforest Cafe to meet up with Matt, Cooper and their mommies for lunch.  We had a book exchange adn Jacob got two really cool books.  Jacob had a good time seeing his friends.  He hadn't seen them in a long time.  Both of the boys mommy's are pregnant again and that was the last time we saw Jenn A. pregnant because later that night Baby Donovan Ahlswede was born.  We couldn't believe it when we got the text message this morning.  I had a dream that Jenn went into labor last night, but never in a million years thought she would have the baby last night.  She wasn't due for another two weeks! I guess babies don't want to be born in January anymore.

This morning we woke up and went to stroller strides.  Jacob and Christian played on the big boy jungle gym for a little bit.  This was the first time both boys were walking around having fun.  It is so cute to see them together.  Later in the afternoon we went to order Jacob's birthday cake.  When we got home we all went for a bike ride through the neighborhood.  Daddy wanted to take Jacob for a bike ride on his new mountain bike.  Jacob liked riding in the trailer, but didn't like wearing his helmet.  It's still a little too big for him and it falls in his eyes so he can't see where he's going.  So we were bad parents and took off the helmet.  He loved the bike ride after that.

So the next time Jacob wakes up it will be 2008!  Another New Years for Jacob.  This is his second one already!  I can't believe it.  tomorrow we will do a year in review and make our New Years resolutions!  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

First Haircut

Jacob slept in this morning until 8:30!  He was tired from three days of partying!  After his morning nap we got ready and went to take him to get his first haircut.  He has needed a haircut for a few months now, but I wanted to wait until after he turned one to get it cut.  Papa and Nani joined us to view the milestone.  We went to "Cool cuts" which specializes in childrens' haircuts.  Jacob sat in a seat that looked like a taxi cab.  He was ready to drive to NYC!  He was such a good boy while Miss Marie cut his hair.  He did not cry at all, in fact, I think he actually enjoyed it.  A couple of times he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror and smiled at himself, thinking about how cool he looked.  AFter the haircut was done she put some gel in his hair and he looked like a different person.  No longer a baby, but a little boy :(  I guess he has to grow up sometime.  When it was all over he went and played with the train set they had there and didn't want to give up the Thomas Train he held onto the whole time.  He looks so adorable with his haircut and now hopefully now one will ask me how old SHE is.  He definitely looks like a little boy now (but he always has...I think the feathered hair look threw some people off).

When we got home, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Alana, Jeanne, Aunt Gina, Uncle Geoff, Sarah, Ryanne, Aunt Di, Uncle Jeff, Chris and Kevin all came over and we had pizza and just hung out and then we took a family picture, except Aunt Val and the kids were missing.  Maybe we will photoshop them in later:)

Jacob stayed up a little later than normal because of all the commotion so when his head hit the mattress in his crib, he was out...after a little bit of trying to get comfy.

So until next time....mommy and daddy love you!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACOB & JESUS!!!

My baby boy is now one year old.  I can't believe how fast the year has gone by.  It seems like only yesterday I was whispering to Bill to wake up because I thought my water broke and now here we are a year later and with so much that has happened this last year.  I know everyone tells you that the time goes by fast, but my goodness, I didn't think it would speed by.  This past year with Jacob was the best year of both Bill and my life.  Truth be told, it was also one of the hardest years of our lives.  There were many sleepless nights, many times when we just didn't know what to do with him to get him to fall asleep, but really that is the only difficult part about being Jacob's mommy and daddy.  The rest is so much fun.  Jacob has made me smile like I've never smiled before.  When I see his little smile, something inside me feels so good.  I can't explain the feeling I have when I look into my baby's eyes and know that he is so happy and loved.  His precious little soul shines through his beautiful eyes and his warm smile.  I've never seen a baby smile as much as Jacob smiles.  He is such a happy baby and I thank God for that.  He has brought us so much joy and laughter this past year.  There are so many things that he has done to make us laugh and smile and feel wonderful inside.  Jacob is the best thing I've ever done in my life and he is such a blessing in our lives.

Today is also a special day for another reason...it's Jesus' birthday!  Happy Birthday Jesus...Merry Christmas.  Jacob has had a book calendar the past few days.  We started out the holidays with a trip to Uncle RJ's and Auntie Sonnia's house.  Jacob had a great time there playing with his ball and new maracas from Nani and Papa.  He was a trooper and stayed up until we left around 8pm and was out like a light before we hit the freeway.

Monday afternoon we went to Uncle Jeff and Aunt Di's house to celebrate Christmas Eve with Daddy's side of the family.  Auntie Val and cousins, Auntie Gina from Georgia and the girls were there along with Grandma and Grandpa, Jeanne and Papa too (Nani was sick and stayed home to rest).  Jacob had a BLAST playing with his cousins.  They were even showing him how to play video games.  Jacob was so excited he didn't fall asleep until 9:30!  Oh my goodness, he was running around the house like a madman at 9pm.  I have no idea where all that energy came from because he woke up at 6am and only had one nap that day.  I guess it was just all the excitement of Christmas and being with all his cousins.  He got lots of presents from his Aunts Uncles and cousins.  WE had a great time.

This morning he woke up at 7am.  Both Bill and I went into his room to get him and sang Happy Birthday him while he was playing in his crib.  Then we went downstairs to see what Santa brought him.  He brought Jacob a small play gym with a slide and ball pit.  He LOVED it and did not get out of the ball pit for awhile.  By the end of the day he was climbing up and sliding down the slide by himself.  Then we opened our family presents.  Jacob got a singing school bus, his own laptop, some crayons and a sesame street driving toy where he can pretend like he's driving a car and move the steering wheel, turn on the blinkers, ets.  He really like all his toys and played with each one for a little while.  Then in the afternoon, mommy's side of the family and grandma and grandpa and jeanne came over to celebrate Christmas and Jacob's Birthday.  We had the back part of the house decorated for Jacob's birthday complete with balloons and his very own cake.  Mommy made his cake and decorated it all by herself.  Once again, Jacob was showered with so many gifts we didn't even know what to do.  And just like on Christmas Eve, he was asleep during the present opening time.  Once he woke up from his short nap, it was time to sing Happy Birthday.  He was very interested in the candle and just stared at everyone as they sang happy birthday.  I must admit, I had a couple tears in my eyes as everyone sang to my baby...I just can't believe he's already a year old.  Anyway, once he got a taste of the frosting, he loved it.  then he tasted the cake and loved that too.  Fortunately, he just had a bottle, so he wasn't that hungry, otherwise I think he would have eaten the whole cake!

Jacob had a wonderful day.  Both mommy and daddy put him to sleep and said a prayer with him before lying him down and then he was off to sleep and sweet dreams.  So until next time, our little one year old...mommy and daddy love you!

Big boy cup

This evening we went out to dinner and Jacob got his own kid's meal (chicken breast, french fries and apple juice).  I was trying to give him some apple juice out of the cup, but he kept grabbing for it, so we put a little bit of juice in the cup and let him go for it.  I figured I didn't have to clean up the sticky floor after he spills all the juice.  So he took the cup and drank away.  we had to keep refilling his cup with more juice.  Granted, a lot of the juice did end up on his shirt, but you could tell he was so proud of himself drinking from a big kid cup.  He was so precious.  He was also stealing sweet potato french fries off of his plate.  I had the plate near me so I could cut the chicken apart for him and he kept reaching over to steal a fry...He knows what's not good for him and knew he had to sneak it past mom.  But he was a good boy and ate lots of chicken.

He has become a picky eater lately.  Last night for dinner I made some pasta with zucchini and tomatoes.  He ate his pasta and tomatoes, but did not want anything to do with the zucchini.  This afternoon for lunch we had leftovers and he was all over the zucchini and did't want anything to do with the pasta noodles...kids.

He has started to walk around the house with a bit of an attitude, almost as if he owns the place (whose kidding who, he does).  Anyway, he walkes and moves his little hips side to side and then swings one of his arms strongly by his side. When he really gets into it, both arms are swinging by his side.  It is so funny to watch.

Tonight was the first night Jacob actually fell asleep in his crib.  I know I know...I've completely been spoiling him and rocking him to sleep everynight.  He's my baby :)  Well for the past couple of days I've put him down for naps in his crib and let him cry for a little bit and then after a few minutes I would go and pat his little bottom and he would fall right to sleep and would actually sleep for a long time, at least 1 1/2 hour naps which is a long time for him.  So tonight I finally did that routine for bed time.  It took him a little while, but he fell asleep no problem.  I guess it's time my baby becomes a big boy and falls asleep on his own.  I know other moms out there probably think I'm crazy, still holding my baby while he falls asleep, but really it just became habit and I love holding him and watching him fall asleep, even amongst the crying sometimes.  But I also realize that he will soon be one year old and I won't be able to hold him forever.  Plus eventually there will be a point when we will have someone else watch him during bed time, and I really can't expect them to rock a one year old to sleep.  So a new era in the life of Jacob begins...he falls asleep on his own now.  Now we just have to get him to sleep all the way through the night without waking up and crying and not wanting to go back to sleep on his own.  I guess eventually we will get a full nights rest.

Unfortunately I have been feeling a little under the weather this week so we only went to stroller strides one day this week.  I think Jacob misses his little friends there and playing at the park.  Next week we will get back into the swing of things and he can run his little heart all over the park.  The day we did go, he went exploring the park.  He was walking all over the place.  His good friend Christian was trying to keep up with him, but he can't quite walk yet, so he was having a difficult time, but Jacob wasn't going to let him hold him back.  He was walking down the trail, in the grass, through the sand.  He really has the walking thing down now, different textures in the ground don't bother him anymore.  He used to have a difficult time walking in the sand, but not anymore.  He had a great time pushing everyone's strollers around for them too.

He is getting a little better at sitting still to listen to a story.  I managed to get through 4 pages of a book yesterday with him while he was sitting on my lap on the floor.  But then he got restless and got the book and tore out the first page, luckily it wasn't part of the story.

He's been pretty crabby the last couple of days.  I think he is teething again.  Any little thing will set him off.  Today he started yelling at his lion when he tipped the lion over and couldn't figure out how to get him back.  After a couple minutes I finally had to go over and show him how to tip it back over, then he was fine and playing with his lion again.  I hope these aren't signs of him having a short temper...that would not be good.

We are all done with our Christmas shopping, now it's just time to clean.  I am going to make a small cake for Jacob's birthday so he can smash his hands all through it.  I can hardly wait to see that.  I guess I shouldn't put too much effort into decorating the cake:)

Alright, I've got some stuff to do, so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Yucky Diapers

Saturday we went to "Breakfast with Santa" sponsored by our City's park and rec department. Jacob's friends Drew and Christian were also there.  Jacob did not have a good morning and skipped his morning bottle.  I thought for sure he would tear up on the pancakes they were serving, but nope...he just threw them around the plate.  I thought he was too excited to eat since there were a lot of people around, but then when we got home we realized that he had...yucky diarrhea.  Poor baby.  His diaper was pretty bad so daddy gave him a bath to help clean up the mess.  He also managed to get some on his jeans, onesie and socks...yeah, fun laundry for me.  His spirits seemed to be high, he just wasn't hungry and was not in the mood for a bottle.  We ended up going to Anaheim Hills to get Bill's Christmas present, a new mountain bike...did I mention to two boys in my life are spoiled?!?!?!?  anyway, on the way home we stopped and visited with Aunt Di, Uncle Jeff and Chris and Kevin.  They had a good time with Jacob and jacob had a good time showing off his dancing skills for them.  He didn't have anymore bad poopies the rest of the day fortunately.  That night though he was TERRIBLE. He kept waking up and would not want to go back to sleep.  I was not feeling that well so I was not happy with the situation.  Sunday morning Bill went off with a friend of his to do guy stuff.  So Jacob and I hung out all day.  Neither of us changed out of our PJs.  We just hung around the house and I managed to clean up (a little).  Again last night Jacob did not sleep well.  He was really restless.  I thought maybe he is teething since I have seen a lot of drool lately and his appetite has decreased, so I gave hime two teething tablets at one point in the middle of the night. They seemed to work for about 5 minutes but then he was up again.  Needless to say we've had very little sleep in the last 3 nights.  this morning when he woke up, he drank most of his bottle and then right after breakfast he had another bad poopy diaper.  He was not a happy camper when I was changing his diaper and got poop EVERYWHERE!  I was not excited about this at all!  I feel bad for the little guy.  We went out and got him some Pedilyte since he is not drinking his formula and not eating much food.  He even turned down a banana today, which is unusual for him.  He did however manage to eat some cheerios and puffs, but that was about it as far as lunch went.  For dinner he ate a little teryaki chicken and some green beans but not as much as usual.  He did not want to drink the pedilyte from the sippy cup, so I put some in a regular cup and he drank a few ounces :)  yeah.  Then at dinner I have him some from a straw.  He's not quite getting the idea of sucking through the straw, so I just dropped it into his mouth.  It's good that he will drink it, because he's not really drinking his bottles.  He drank most of his bottle this evening, so that was good.  I hope this goes away quick so he is feeling better and so we can get some sleep at night.  I feel like we have a newborn all over again.

New things Jacob is doing.  Bill taught him to give High Fives.  So when you say, "high five" he will stick out his right arm and wait for you to give him a high five.  He still loves dancing, bouncing up and down, moving his arms and shaking his head.  If he can't move his legs you can bet that his little head is moving from side to side whenever he hears music, even in the car...he's so funny in his car seat.  This weekend he was playing with my cell phone and managed to wake up Melinda on Saturday morning and then called my mom and dad this evening.  I need to take it away from him, but right now I don't want to deal with more crying from him...he's doing enough of that for other reasons. He still loves his "stick" the roll from the wrapping paper.  And he LOVES his mickey mouse bouncing ball.  All we have to say is "where's the ball" and he goes searching for it and comes back  and throws it at one of us to play catch with him.  He chases that thing everywhere.  One bad thing he has started to do is when I tell him no to something like no you can't touch that or if I take something away from him, he will give me a very dirty look and start crying and once in a while he will smack my leg....oh no you don't...we are not going to start that!  I am nipping that in the bud for sure and fast!

So that's it for now.  I hope my little baby is feeling better fast.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

even more catching up

So it's been a while since I've posted.  My computer hasn't worked for a while, but now we are ready to go.  We've been busy getting ready for Christmas these last few weeks.  Jacob went to 3 birthday parties since our last post.  One for Aiden, Luke and Drew.  He had a great time at all of them. Of course he was Mr. Social Butterfly.  At least 2 adults at each party commented on how social he was.  At one party he even left the kids playing and walked over to where the adults were and gave them a huge smile and started laughing.  I guess he thought they needed a little entertainment.  This boy is a ham.  Then on Dec. 3rd, Jacob met Santa Claus.  I didn't think that he would cry, and for the most part he didn't  We went to Victoria Gardens and all the way there Jacob was singing and laughing in the backseat.  As we were waiting in the short line he was all smiles.  As soon as he sat on Santa's lap, the smile left him.  He looked up at Santa once with a questioning look.  Then he went back to looking at the camera, then one more look at Santa and the mouth turned to a frown, his lips began to quiver and a slight cry came from his mouth, but that's all it was.  He quickly looked away and the cry stopped. We did get a decent picture of him with Santa.

Almost every morning Jacob and I have attended Stroller Strides.  Jacob loves it because he can play with his friend Christian.  They are so cute together.  The other day they were passing their toys and books back and forth to each other.  ADORABLE!  he gets to play at the park after so he LOVES it.  He's been taking later nap because of the timing, but it hasn't seemed to affect him too much.  This week however he schedule is all messed up.  Yesterday and today he only took one nap for about an hour and half tops.  Today he was especially cranky toward the end of the day but hopefully he will sleep well tonight.

Earlier this week we took family pictures.  The photographer at JCPEnney was terrible so we didn't get too many good shots.  Oh well, we only ordered two so we got off cheap.

Jacob loves his Christmas tree.  Each morning when we go downstairs the Christmas tree is lit up and he points to it and makes a "oohhh" sound.  So cute.  He loves it and has been really good about not touching it.  I even have gifts under the tree now and he hasn't touched one of them yet!  He does love to hang out in the living room at point at the tree, go and touch one of the branches and walk away.  he also loves the Christmas lights on the houses.  Last week we had some fairly warm weather at night so we put on his new flame beanie and jacket and walked our street to see the lights.  Nani and Papa were over for dinner so they joined us for the stroll.  He walked up the driveway of a couple of houses that really caught his attention.  If we are driving home and it's dark we drive slowly past the houses and it quickly becomes silent in the back of the car as he is just staring at the lights.   He also love wrapping paper.  He has gotten into my wrapping paper a couple of times now, so there are a few gifts with some crinkled paper, oh well!  Two days ago he reached for the labels and somehow managed to stick one on himself.  When he walked over to me I saw the "to, from" label stuck to his pant let and I almost wet myself I was laughing so hard."

Jacob's new favorite toy has become the cardboard roll from the celephane wrap I used to wrap Bill's employees gifts.  He walks around the house like a shepard with his staff.  He has also learned to throw his Mickey bouncy ball, so we play "catch" with the ball during the day.  he throws it to me and I roll it back.  He is really getting into putting things into other things.  I guess he's been doing that for a while now, but I've noticed it more and more.  If he has something in each of his hands he figures out which can fit into the other.  He is getting much quicker with his walking now too...in fact today I think he was running away from me at Kohls, good thing I had my athletic shoes on!  The dancing thing is hysterical.  Seriously, this boy has rythmn.  I know I've been saying that, but now when he hears music, he bounces as usual but now he has added a bit of a sway, his head moves back and forth and one arm also moves to the beat.  He really gets down, depending on the song.  The other night we were having dinner and we had Christmas music playing in the background (cheesy, I know, but I love Christmas music!!!).  Anyway as he was eating he started moving his head to the beat.  I was laughing so hard and of course Bill was encouraging him to continue.  One day this week when Bill got him out of his crib, he brought him to our bed and turned on the Disney Channel.  The Wiggles were on singing some dorky song and I opened my eyes to my baby sitting up against the pillow, eyes glued to the TV with his right arm swaying to the music.  Oh how I could wake up to that every morning.  If that happened, I don't think I would be grumpy in the morning.

Today at lunch I had him attempt to drink from a straw.  He was somewhat successful.  He has the action down, he's just not sucking hard enough yet.  then he just started biting the straw, so we stopped and we'll try again tomorrow.

Okay, I am super tired right now and can barely read what I'm writing.  I only got a couple of hours of sleep last night becasue I was up thinking about who knows what.  Anyway, I'll write more tomorrow and add whatever I missed then.  so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
