Go Bruins!

Today Jacob is getting ready to watch the UCLA Bruins play in the Final Four.  He is wearing his UCLA gear for good luck.  He's worn the same outfit for the past 3 games and so far so good!  Daddy and Jacob went for a walk this morning.  When they returned Jacob was holding a flower for mommy that he "picked."  Of course mommy had it in a vase and will keep that flower forever.  Daddy said that on their walk they were looking at the birdies and chased a couple of lizards.  Now here is the funny part...we all know that Jacob can't chase lizards right now, because he can't walk yet...so that means Daddy was running after lizards with the stroller...I know that must have been a funny sight.  It does bring a smile to mommy's face (1) thinking about Bill running along the street with the stoller but (2) I can only imagine when Jacob is able to walk and wants to chase lizards and stuff that the two of them will be out together doing those things.  That kind of stuff brings a smile to my face.  Daddy loves to hang out with his son whether it's just them hanging out on the couch kicking it or if they are sitting outside watching the birds and planes fly by!  They are so cute together!

Yesterday Jacob, Mommy, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa, Nani and Papa went to a Fish Fry at Daddy's high school, St. John Bosco.  It was so cool being with both sets of grandparents.  After we ate Daddy gave us a tour of his school.  I think he had a good time thinking of the "good ol days"

Well hopefully we will be updating tomorrow with good news that the Bruins will be playing on Monday in the Championship game!  Until then...mommy and daddy love you!

3 months old!

Sunday Jacob turned 3 months old.  We celebrated by going to church :)  We went to the 11:30 service so we were able to meet more mommies and babies in the nursing room.  Then we went to lunch and got a little shopping in.

On Tuesday, March 27th Jacob started to grab things.  Up until this date when he played with his hands they were always in fists.  When he woke up on Tuesday, mommy noticed that he was holding the blanket that was over his legs.  So she gave him a toy to play with and he grabbed on for a little while.  Now he favorite thing is a small blanket with a bear attached to it.  The edges of the blanket are wet when he's done with it, because it goes from his hands straight to his mouth.  I guess the blanket tastes good:)

Today we went to the mall to have his 3 month pictures taken.  He looked so handsome in his overalls outfit that he will also wear on Easter.  He was a good boy even though it was his feeding time! He didn't smile too much, but we got some good pictures anyway.  There was another 3 month old little girl in there and Jacob was flirting with her...it's starting already!  He was a good boy the whole time we were there...Once mommy picked out the pictures, then he got hungry.  The rest of the day we are just hanging out waiting for daddy to get home from work!  Jacob misses his daddy when he has to go into work, but has a good time with him once he gets home!

Until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Easter Bunny

Yesterday Jacob went to see the Easter Bunny and take his picture with him.  Fortunately we were able to go during the day and there was NO ONE THERE!  So we walked right up to the Easter Bunny.  Jacob was a good boy with him and didn't cry.  In fact, daddy even got him to smile for the picture.

While we were getting ready to leave to see the Easter Bunny we were putting Jacob in his car seat and realized he was too big for the newborn insert in the car seat:(  So, he has graduated from that.  Daddy took out the newborn inserts and had to move the straps up one notch.  Oh no! He's getting bigger right before our eyes.

Today mommy and Jacob went to visit Jacob's great grandma.  This was the first time they met each other.  G.G. (as the other great grand kids call her) loved him and thought he was too cute!  We had a nice visit with GG but had to go earlier than she wanted us to so that we would miss the afternoon traffic.  Jacob does not do well in traffic and with no one in the backseat to entertain him, mommy was not about to have a long drive home with a crying baby.  So we told GG that we would visit her again and take her out to lunch.

For the past week or so Jacob has been sleeping through the night.  He eats and goes to sleep around 8:30 and doesn't wake up until 5:30 in the morning!  Mommy and daddy love this new routine, we are getting lots of sleep now which is wonderful.  Mommy still wakes up in the middle of the night to check on her little sleeping angel, but it's not that bad!

Mommy and daddy love you!

Great weekend!

Jacob had a great weekend.  Saturday night mommy and daddy went to Jen and Jason's wedding.  They had a great time there and it was a beautiful wedding.  Jen looked beautiful (and Jason looked handsome!).  Most of the time mommy and daddy talked about Jacob to anyone who would listen.  We had a great time (even though we really missed our little Jacob), we even got to dance to a few songs.  Jacob was asleep when we got home but we heard that he and Papa watched the UCLA basketball game together.  No doubt Jacob is going to be a Bruin fan (it's okay if he doesn't go to UCLA, but mommy says he can't even think about applying to that other school in Southern California!).

Sunday morning we all slept in so late that we missed church.  Mommy was bummed because she really wanted to hear the speaker, but she will get the tape and listen that way.  Later in the afternoon Jacob got to meet his Uncle Mike, Auntie Kim and cousin Luke.  (Mike is a friend of daddy's and their family has become good friend's of ours).  Luke is about 3 weeks older than Jacob so I'm sure as they grow older they will have lots of fun together.  Mommy and Luke's mommy are planning on getting the boys together so they can play!

We've noticed lately that Jacob has started to blow bubbles with his mouth...great...I'm sure major drull is soon to follow.  He also loves to suck on his wrist and forearm.  He's starting to use his pacifer less and less and go for his own body parts which is fine with mommy and daddy.  If he can ween himself off the pacifer it will make our job even easier.

Mommy and daddy love you!

Jacob is making progress

This is mommy and daddy posting together tonight.

Yesterday, March 15th, while having some tummy time on mommy and daddy's bed, Jacob rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time.  It was a roll over in stages.  First he rolled on to his side and it took him a while to realize what he had just done.  After being on his side for a short while, he eventually made it all the way to his back.  Mommy was so excited and she was wanting to call daddy into the room, but he was in a very important meeting and she didn't want to disturb him.  Daddy will be able to see him the next time though!

Today, Cousin Anissa came over in the morning and spent the day with Jacob.  She was playing with Jacob a lot (and was a lot of help to mommy:) ).  This evening the Duran's came over for dinner and to meet Jacob.  We had a great dinner with them.

Jacob is getting so much bigger every day.  He smiles throughout the day now, not just in the morning anymore.  This evening he had a full "conversation" with his Papa at the dinner table.  It was so cute to see the two of them interacting with each other. He is starting to really like his toys, mostly stuffed animals.  His favorites so are are these two elephants, why elephants, I'm not sure, but he smiles the most at the elephants.  He also like a little monkey, but not as much as Mr. Elephant.  He is also somewhat fascinated by a toy shaped like a star.  He's not quite at the stage of reaching for the toys, but he will follow the toys with his eyes and stare and smile at the ones he really likes.  Jacob has been sleeping really well at night.  For the past couple of nights he has been sleeping for 8 hours straight.  We are really excited about this because we are getting more straight hours of sleep.  He is going to sleep at 7pm and waking up at 4am for a feeding.  Now if we can just adjust his clock a little to have him fall asleep at 9 and wake up at 6, we would be REALLY happy campers!  But we'll take what he's giving us for now!

The weather has been really nice lately so Jacob has been on several walks with his mommy and daddy.  He loves to go in the backyard with his daddy and listen to the birdies chirping.  The other night daddy BBQ'd turkey burgers.  Jacob wanted to watch his daddy, so he sat in his swing next to daddy and then we had dinner outside while Jacob was swinging away.  We can hardly wait until the Spring and Summer when we can have more days like that.

Mommy and daddy love you!

What mommy loves about Jacob at 11 weeks old

Well Jacob you have been in our lives for 11 weeks now.  I can't believe how fast the time has gone by, yet in some ways it seems as though time has stood still.  Right now it is about 8:15 and I just put you down to sleep.  As I was rocking you to sleep tonight I was thinking about how fast you are growing and I was cherishing that moment we had together as you were asleep in my arms and I was holding you tight.  Before I know it you will be too big for me to rock you to sleep and I want to cherish each moment I have with you, especially while you are so little.  While holding you tonight I was thinking about why I love you so much.  Here are some of the things I thought about.

I love the way you look when you are sleeping in my arms...I love watching you sleep in your basinette (which you are still in because I can't even think about putting you in your crib right now)...I love the way you stretch out when you wake up, you stretch every part of your body including your mouth and eyebrows!...I love the way you breathe heavily when you are hungry and I can't feed you fast enough...I love the way you cry ( I know I won't always say that, but right now, I love the way that sounds...but I don't let you cry for very long)...I love the way you smile when you see your daddy...I love the way you grunt when you are on your tummy because you don't really like tummy time right now...I love the little (loud) noises you make when you are about to wake up, I think my favorite is the clearing of the throat sound...I love the way you hold on to me as I am burping you over my shoulder...I love how you are so happy in the morning and wake up with a smile on your face...I love to watch you watching your bear mobile in your basinette, you watch the bear go around in a circle and you think it is the greatest thing in the world, you can watch them for a long time and be completly content...I love how you are starting to laugh...I love you cooing, you sound like a perfect angel...I love to rub your ears and head as you are nursing...I love it when you get frustrated because you can't find your food source when you've let go during nursing and you move your head back and forth quickly in search of it...I love staring at you all the time...I love staring at pictures of you...I love to see you playing with your daddy, that brings a smile to my face...I love it when you sleep with your arms in a "touchdown" position...I love the loud sound that comes from your bottom when you go poo poo, there is no doubt when you have gone #2...I love the snort sound you make...I love it when you put the soles of your feet together when I'm changing your diaper...I love all the faces you make when I have the nose picker and am trying to pick a winner from you...I love how your hair is falling out and when I pick you up from you basinette there is hair all over your sheets...I love it that I know the difference between your cries and know what to expect from you now (well most of the time anyway)..I love it when your pinky toe gets in the way when I am trying to put on your socks...I love it when you spit your pacifier halfway out and then suck it right back in...I love it when you smile at me and give me that big gummy grin...

There are so many other things I love about you, but didn't write.  I know eventually I will look back on this blog and miss all these little things about you, but I know that with each passing day I will find more and more things to love about you.  You are my precious gift from God and I thank Him everyday for bringing you into my life.  I will always love you and do anything for you, without you even having to ask.  I thank God that I am able to stay home with you to watch you grow and not miss a moment of your little life.  I look forward to seeing what God has in store for our family and for you especially, but until then I am going to treasure every moment I have with you.  I love you my little angel.

Mommy and Daddy love you!

Lots of catching up

Well, it's been a while since we last posted.  I guess we are just too busy (and tired at the end of the day!).

Last Sunday we made it to church again.  Jacob lasted through worship and as soon as Pastor Jack came out to talk, he started crying because he was hungry.  So he and mommy went in the nursing room where we already knew a couple of mommies and babies.  Later that afternoon Jacob went to a park for the first time.  We went to Yorba Linda Park and strolled Jacob around that HUGE park.  There is a big lake with ducks swimming around.  We are sure that when he gets older he will LOVE  that park.  Nani, Papa and the Gunnin Gang were all there riding their bikes.  It was a beautiful day to take Jacob on his first stroll through a park.  We can't wait until he can play on the jungle gyms!

Monday, Jacob and mommy went to get stuff for his announcements which we still have not gotten out to people. While at Hallmark Jacob made it known in several ways (sound and smell) that he needed a diaper change.  Mommy rushed home to change his diaper, but when daddy opened up the diaper he realized it was ALL OVER JACOB!!!  Wipies were not going to cut it for this diaper change.  A mid afternoon bath was in order for him!

On Tuesday morning, Jacob and mommy met some other mommies and babies at the park for "stroller strides."  We both had a good time and mommy got a really good workout, she was sore the next day.  Jacob did really well, napping most of the time, but toward the end he got fussy because he was HUNGRY!   So we couldn't stay and chat with the other mommies, but maybe next time when it doesn't interfere with his feeding schedule.

On Wednesday Jacob and mommy went to mommy's work.  He got to meet all of her students and co-workers.  Of course everyone thought he was so cute.  Again he was such a good boy being passed around from person to person.  Mommy was glad to see everyone she works with...it had been almost 3 months since she had seen them.  When Jacob met Micki (after eating) he got so excited, he threw up all over her shirt.  We felt really bad because she still had to teach her last class...sorry Micki!

Thursday we did a little of nothing.  Mommy tried to go to the stroller stride class, but Jacob decided he was hungry about 30 minutes before it started and there wasn't enough time to make it there.  We went to have lunch with Nani and later that night Nani and Papa came over for dinner because mommy made some really good fish!

Friday, Jacob met up with his friend Matthew.  Matthew lives in San Diego so we all met up in Temecula for lunch.  Both boys did really well at lunch.  Matthew is getting so big now.  They are only 3 1/2 months apart, but there is a big difference in size right now:)

Saturday was Papa's birthday...we won't say how old he is, but we will say he is now able to eat off the senior citizen's menu at Denny's:)  Nani had a BBQ for Papa at their house.  It was such a beautiful day so we spent most of the day outside.  We found out that Jacob does not like scented lotions and breaks out in a rash when his sensitive skin touches it.  Mommy's glad she found that out.  I guess all her scented stuff is off limits until his skin toughens up!

This morning was day light savings time.  In the morning while mommy was getting ready, Jacob and daddy spent some quality time together playing and smiling!  Jacob is so cute when he is with his daddy.  Whenever he sees him he gets a huge smile on his face!  At church Jacob ate during worship and mommy, daddy and Jacob were able to sit in church together for the message for the first time.  Jacob slept through most of it and started to get fussy right at the end.  He was such a good boy.  We also turned in the paperwork to get him dedicated.  Mommy and daddy can hardly wait for that to happen.  When we got home from church we were all tired.  Daddy started off by falling asleep in his favorite chair, then after feeding Jacob, mommy and Jacob fell asleep on the couch too.  It was family nap time and boy did it feel good.  I can't remember the last time we were able to take a nap at the same time!

Some changes in Jacob in the last week have been...

When on his tummy he is now starting to lift up with his arms.  This morning he made drastic changes with a pretty large lift.  He can lift his head almost all the way up now.  He is starting to like tummy time a little more.  In the beginning he didn't spend much time on his tummy becasue he would cry most of the time.  Now he is lasting longer and longer.  He gets frustrated that he can't stay lifted up and then starts to cry.

He is definitely smiling a lot more now.  Every once in a while he will "laugh" which to us is making noises while he is smiling.  It doesn't totally sound like laughter, but it's close enough for us.

Both mommy and daddy enjoy every moment we have with our precious little angel.  We love him so much and are eager to see what other joys he brings to our lives.  Sometimes when he is sleeping we just stare at him and can't believe that we brought him into this world.  He is such a blessing from God and we thank Him everyday for bringing Jacob into our lives.

Mommy and Daddy love you baby!

Running around

Jacob has been busy these last few days.  On Thursday he and mommy met Cooper and Auntie Jenn for lunch at the Brea Mall.  We had a great time seeing both of them.  Cooper is getting so big so fast.  Both the boys were good at lunch.  That night Jacob decided that sleep was not that important so he had both mom and dad up almost all night.  We thought for sure he would sleep all day Friday, but he had other plans.  He was acting like a spoiled baby and would cry anytime mommy would lay him down, even to change his diaper.  Boy was mommy frustrated with him (but she still loves him a whole lot!).  Nani and Papa called in the early evening and offered to watch Jacob if mommy and daddy wanted to go to dinner.  Wow, was that phone call a blessing.  Mom and dad went and had a nice dinner while Jacob fell asleep in Papa's arms.

This morning Jacob was on mommy and daddy's bed playing with mommy while daddy was still sleeping.  Jacob was laying on his tummy and is starting to lift himself up with his arms.  He's not actually doing it, but he's getting there.  Jacob got really close to daddy and woke him up! What a great way to wake up, to have Jacob right in your face!

This afternoon Jacob, mommy and Nani went to Victoria Gardens so that mommy could get a wedding present.  We had a great time walking around even though it was REALLY windy out there.  Jacob got two outfits and a pair of athletic shoes (thanks to Nani who doesn't like to see him not wearing shoes even though he's not walking yet and really doesn't need to wear shoes right now).  We put them on him when we got home and he looks like a big boy wearing them.

Tonight is some fight that daddy wants to watch.  Jacob will (hopefully) be asleep by the time it starts, but we'll update that tomorrow.  Until then, mommy and daddy love you!
