1st Road Trip

We just got home from Jacob's first road trip.  We went to visit Uncle Ralph and Auntie Yolie in Lake Havasu.  Jacob didn't have the best ride out there Thursday night.  When it was his bed time, he started to cry (a lot) so daddy had to pull over so mommy could put Jacob to sleep.  I felt so bad for the poor baby, but he slept the rest of the way there.  It was really hot over there (about 102 degrees) so Jacob spent most of the weekend inside the house playing and sleeping except for the mornings when he and Papa were in the backyard watching the birdies eat and the boats speed by in the lake.  He was a really good boy this weekend.  His first night there was rough, but he had just spent close to 5 hours strapped into his carseat and was in an unfamiliar place so mommy and Jacob didn't get much sleep Thursday night.  Thankfully Nani and Papa were there and took him for most of the day on Friday.

On Saturday all the boys except for Jacob rode into Laughlin where there was a Harley Run.  Jacob was dressed for the occasion, but didn't get to join in on the fun.  Maybe in about 15 years!  So he stayed home with the girls and watched movies.

On the way home Sunday, he did really well.  He played with mommy and nani in the back seat for a while, then drank his bottle and fell right to sleep.  He didn't wake up until we were just about to get off the freeway!  What a good boy...everyone was so proud of him and said we would be able to take him on a road trip again.

We took lots of pictures of Jacob in his Harley gear and daddy will make sure to post them on the website soon.  Until next time baby... mommy and daddy love you!

4 months old!

Jacob turned 4 months old today.  I can't believe that Jacob has been here for that long.  I mean the time has gone by fast, but at the same time, it seems like he's been with us forever.  We celebrated by taking him to the doctors for his checkup and giving him 4 shots and some yucky tasting vaccine:)  Poor baby, but he did really well with his shots today.  In fact, it seemed like the worst part for him was that the nurse was holding his legs down.  He loves to have his legs kicking all the time.  Jacob weighed in at 12 lbs. 15 oz (on the small side), and his length is 25 3/4 inches long (above average).  So right now we have a long skinny baby.  The doctor didn't seem too concerned about his weight, but wants us to go back in 4 weeks for a weight check.  He also told me to try giving him some formula after he nurses to make sure he is eating enough.  I have had a feeling for a while that he wasn't getting enough from me, but I though I was just a paranoid mom and he always seems to be content after he eats.  Lately however, he is really fussy when he nurses and I kept thinking it's because he wasn't getting anything.  The doc told me that if he ate more than 1/2 -1oz then he wasn't getting enough milk from me and was probably still a little hungry.  Well we tried for the first time today giving him some formula.  I was a little apprehensive at first because I really wanted to soley breastfeed him for the first 6 months because I know that is what's best for him, but I also want him to be healthy and well nourished.  Well Daddy gave him a bottle full of 2 ounces of formula.  At first he tried to reject it since he had never tasted it before...but after a couple of times letting go of the nipple, he took right to it and gobbled down the two ounces.  Boy did I feel like a bad mommy at that point.  My poor baby hasn't been getting enough milk from me and that's why he didn't gain that much weight these last 2 months.  I got over feeling guilty because at least now I know what to do and hopefully he will gain the appropriate amount of weight.  Later for his last feeding of the day, I nursed him and he was especially fussy.  After nursing him, I made a bottle of 4 ounces of formula, just to see how much he would eat.  The little porker ate 3 ounces of the formula (again I felt like a bad mommy, but then got over it).  My poor baby, now I'm thinking that he likes the formula more than me.  I think he was rejecting me knowing that he would get the bottle later!  No really, whatever it takes to make my baby healthy, we will do.  After he ate he seemed extra content and after sitting up for alittle while watching daddy work on the computer he fell right to sleep without being fussy at all...no crying tonight.  So we will see how he does sleeping tonight.

Today Jacob and mommy played a lot in his jungle gym and just with eachother.  He was so happy today (even after his shots).  He had a smile on his face all day.  Daddy had to wake him up this morning because he had a fairly early doctor's appointment.  When he woke up, he was all smiles (unlike his mommy when someone wakes her up!).   He rolled over once again today and this time he stayed on his tummy and didn't roll back over.  Instead he played on his tummy for a little while and then started crying.  When he's had enough, he's had enough, but he needs to learn that he has to roll back over on his own, without mommy's help.

Tomorrow we are leaving for Lake Havasu to visit Uncle Ralph and Auntie Yolie.  Mommy and Daddy are praying for a good drive over there.  We are leaving at night in hopes that he sleeps the whole way over there.  We'll be back on Sunday and will update then.  So until Sunday...mommy and daddy love you, our little 4 month old baby!

Roll over baby!

Today, Jacob rolled over from his back to his tummy for the first time.  He was playing in his gym on the floor reaching up for the giraffe and parrot while mommy was talking on the phone with Auntie Melinda.  I turned away for him for a couple of seconds and when I looked back at him he was lifting his legs and was on his side.  I was shocked!  He has not been showing any signs of trying to turn over, but something told me that he was going to do it today.  Mommy was so excited and was encouraging him to push harder to roll all the way over.  He attempted a couple more times, but with no luck.  Then he got tired so mommy took him to see daddy and to tell daddy what just happened.  Of course daddy was very excited and wanted to see if Jacob would actually do it.  So on the floor in daddy's office we layed Jacob down and teased him with some of his toys.  His little legs kept coming up and his hips were moving, but nothing.  Of course we were video taping the whole time because both of us knew that it was going to happen very soon and we are hoping to catch all of his milestones on camera.  All of a sudden, those legs went up, his hips moved and over he went.  He layed there on his belly for a couple of seconds and then went back on his back.  He had a smile on his face when he heard his mommy and daddy cheering for him.  A short time later he rolled over again.  This time he stayed on his tummy and struggled to roll back over and began to cry.  Needless to say we were so proud of our little boy who is growing so fast.  After his hard work of rolling over he took a nap because that took a lot of energy out of him.

Tomorrow Jacob will be 4 months old.  We can't believe how fast the time goes by. he will visit his doctor tomorrow for his check up and we will see just how much he has grown.

Jake has been in his room for over a week now and he's still not completely used to it.  He has been waking up in the middle of the night for  really no reason.  He usually wakes up at around 12:30 or so and struggles to go back to sleep which has made for several sleepless nights for both mommy and daddy.  When he wakes up crying mommy tries to consol him without picking him up, but it doesn't work.  I pick him up to rock him back to sleep, hold him for a bit and then put him back in his crib.  It's as though there are needles in his bed becasue the second I lay him down he starts moving around and moaning and then begins to cry.  It is quite frustrating for us becasue this goes on for a long time.  Some nights it's at least a couple of hours before he finally settles down and stays asleep, and then he's up a couple of hours later because he's hungry.  I'm sure one day we will look back on these days and say remember when...right now all we are saying is remember when we got some sleep. I for one cannot remember the last time I actually slept through the night.  When I was pregnant, I was waking up during the night and staying up for a couple of hours because I couldn't go back to sleep.  I kept saying that was God's way of preparing me for a baby, but now I wish I would have gotten more sleep while I was pregnant.  I wish there was a way you could store up the extra sleep you get before children to be able to use when you have a baby.  I know one day we'll be able to sleep again, but boy does that seem far off right now.  As I'm typing this my eyes are burning and half open and it's only 9:30.  I remember when 9:30 was when I was just getting started with stuff.   There were those days when I would go to sleep at 12 or so, wake up at 5am to go to work and function perfectly fine.  Bill and I were just talking about that the other day.  We would stay up late, get up early and still have lots of energy.  I guess when it's you controlling how much sleep your body gets, you adjust fine, but when someone else is waking you up, your body doesn't like it.  Oh well, it is so worth the lack of sleep we get just to be able to hold Jacob in our arms and see him smile everyday!

Mommy and daddy love you Jacob, even when you keep us up all night:)

Another Party Weekend

Saturday afternoon Jacob went to his friend Cooper's first birthday party.  We all had a great time.  Cooper had a train at his party.  Jacob got to ride on the train 3 times!  Two of those times he rode with his friend Matt.  Jacob saw all of his friends there, Cooper (of course), Matt, Garrett and Wyatt.  That was the first time he met Garrett and Wyatt, they are big boys now.  He was also able to meet his Aunties Angela and Alexa and Uncle Greg.  Jacob told me later that he liked watching Cooper stick his hands in his birthday cake and he can hardly wait until he can do that.  Fortunately, the weather was great.  It rained all day Friday and we were a little worried about the weather, but it was actually perfect.  It was a little cool and cloudy, but it got a little warmer as the day went on.  Saturday night mommy and daddy realized Jacob got a little bit of sun on his nose and cheeks.  Mommy felt so bad about that.  She put some lotion on Jake's face and it looked a lot better Sunday morning.

Sunday Jacob went to his Uncle RJ's house for the first time.  We got to have lunch there.  He was a little fussy on the way there but he was a good boy at their house.

Overall we had a great weekend.  Mommy and daddy love you!

Jacob's Crib

Last night Jacob slept in his room for the first time.  I must admit, I did cry when I put him down to sleep.  I'm not quite sure why, I guess I was sad knowing that my baby is growing up.  He really doesn't fit in the basinett anymore and I have been pushing it having him in there the last few weeks.   I did make Bill buy a video monitor so that I can see him anytime I want (without having to get out of bed).  Wow, that thing is the coolest thing ever.  My cousin Renae has one and showed me hers and she said she loved it.  I think I am going to love it too.  Jacob did well in his crib...I don't think he knew the difference except that he has way more room now so he can stretch out and not have to hit the sides or the end of the basinett anymore.  However, I think I picked the wrong day to finally put him in his crib, because I think he is going through a growth spurt right now.  Prior to the last couple of nights, Jake was sleeping through the night.  He would go to sleep between 7 and 8 and not wake up until about 5am...but for the last 2-3 nights he's been waking up twice during the night.  So last night I put him in his crib at around 9pm (after rocking him to sleep and holding him for close to an hour while watching Dancing with the Stars, one of my favorite shows on TV right now).  Then he woke up at 12:30.  I thought he had just woken up, not because he was hungry, so I tried patting him back to sleep.  When that didn't work, I picked him up and rocked him, when that didn't work and he started to scream his head off, Bill woke up and asked if he was hungry.  What a terrible mommy I was because it really didn't cross my mind that he could be hungry.  Maybe it was the lack of sleep from the past two days.  So I fed him and he was back to sleep.  Then he woke up again at 4:30 for another feeding.  I put him back in his crib at about 5:30 and then he was up again at 6:30 and this time he was up for the day and I was definitely not ready for him to be awake yet.  Fortunately, Jacob has a wonderful daddy and I have a great husband.  Bill woke up and got Jacob and the two of them watched Scooby Doo in the morning.  Now I don't want to make a habit of Jacob watching TV so early, but that extra 30-60 minutes of sleep for me was wonderful!

another milestone...Jacob is now holding on to his toys and carrying them.  Before he would kind of toss them around while he played with them on his back or in the car seat, but now he is really taking hold.  he has a pretty good grasp.  Yesterday, I picked him up while he was playing with his elephant and usually the elephant would fall, but not this time...the elephant came along too!  We are so proud of him and can't wait to see the new things he does everyday!

Mommy and Daddy love you!

A day with Grandparents in Chino Hills!!!

This is Daddy posting tonight... Today was a really great day!  This morning was so clear and we had awesome weather!  We made plans to meet Nani and Papa for lunch but before we meet them for lunch daddy took care of some chores around the house and mowing the lawns.  Mommy also did some chores too...Washing some of Jacob's clothes and other stuff.  Eventually, when we were all done with our morning stuff and we met up with Nani and Papa for lunch.  We ate at a really cool restaurant (name seems to escape me right now, Missy would know...) and we had some of the best food I've had in a while!  Man... all I could think about was how awesome it was being around family with my handsome son, Jacob, and his grandparents this weekend!!!  We had a blast!

After we got home, we where all so tired and so we just kicked it and watched 'National Treasure'.  I like that movie!  During a slower part of the movie, Missy couldn't resist going to our brand new Rite-Aid that just opened around the corner for some you know what... Ice Cream! So she went to go get her favorite ice cream.  Meanwhile, Daddy and Jacob just kicked it while watching the rest of the movie.

There are some days when I pick up Jacob and walk him to our upstairs guest bedroom (in the front of our house) to look outside and watch the kids play, birds fly, and a few cars drive by.  He just loves watching those birdies and especially listening to them "chirping"...!  In the guest bedroom, there's a mirror where I can see Jake and all I could think about is how he's growing so fast.  It feels like yesterday when he could practically fit in both of my hands.  But now, he's grwoing so fast, he's on my hip already and sitting up straight.  He has very good balance of his head and is very strong.  The hair on his head is growing so fast and he's changing everyday!!!  I just don't want him to grow so fast.... I try my best to take many pictures and as many videos as possible - so we can remember these special days.  Pretty soon, Jake will be crawling and then walking and talking up a storm!  I can't wait...!  But I also can!

Mommy and Daddy love you sooo much Jacob and just remember that we always will.  I'm so proud of you for how you rolled over the other day for the very first time on your own!  You have your Mommy's beautiful smile and I hope you never loose it.  Stay happy and young son!  Your Daddy (and Mommy) both love you!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter Jacob!  Today was your first Easter Sunday.  Jacob, Mommy and Daddy went to church this morning and saw all the other little children dressed in their Easter best.  Jacob was wearing a khaki Winnie the Pooh Short overall outfit.  Daddy got Jacob dressed this morning during their male bonding time.  While in church waiting for service to begin, mommy noticed that Jacob's onesie was on backwards:)  Daddy thought the buttons to the onesie were supposed to go in the front when they are really supposed to be in the back.  How cute is that!  We'll give daddy lots of points for dressing his darling little son, and we know that he is still learning (as we both are!).  After church, we went home and Jacob got his Easter basket while we waited for Grandma and Grandpa to arrive so we could all caravan to Nani and Papa's house where we met the rest of the family for Easter lunch.  We had a great time there.  Jacob got two more baskets there.  One from Uncle RJ and Auntie Sonnia and another from Nani and Papa.  Later when Grandnina (Auntie Yolie) arrived she and Annissa brought him a cute talking stuffed chick.  Jacob loved all of his gifts!  Thanks to everyone!  Today wasn't a beautiful day weather wise, but it was a glorious day celebrating that our Savior is ALIVE!

Yesterday, Jacob went to Downtown Disney and California Adventure for the first time.  We met daddy's friend from work there for lunch at House of Blues and then we all went into the park.  It was a chilly day, so Jacob spent most of the time in the stroller bundled up.  Daddy got him a cool hat and mittens from the disney store so he was ready to take on the cool weather.  He must of been pretty warm and comfortable because most of the time he slept (when he wasn't eating).  Disney has a great place for mommies to feed their babies, so mommy was able to feed Jacob out of the chill of the day in a nice warm room with a rocking chair while daddy went on some fun rides with his friend and his son.  We spent a few hours at the park and then headed home in time for Jacob's last feeding.  He was wiped out and had a good night's rest.

On another note.  Tonight after getting home from our Easter celebration Bill and I watched "Pursuit of Happyness."  Wow, what a powerful movie.  I spent most of the time crying because this man in the movie was struggling to make ends meet and provide for his son.  The whole time I was watching the movie I was thinking about how blessed we are to have all that we have.  Not only has the Lord provided us with what we need, he has gone well beyond that.  I think a lot of times I take what I have for granted, as I think most people do.  This movie really made me reflect on what is really important in life and to thank God for what he has given us.  Everynight before I lay Jacob down to sleep I say a prayer with him thanking god for him and asking Him to watch over Jacob and to keep him healthy, safe and happy.  I also ask God to help Bill and me raise him to be a strong Christian, who loves the Lord and to allow for us to provide for him.  Tonight, as I lay Jacob down to sleep I said that same prayer with tears in my eyes, thanking God for all that he has given us.  I thanked God that Bill has a job that has allowed us the gift of me staying home with our baby to watch over him and love him all day long.  I know not many moms are able to stay home with their babies and I thank God for making it possible for me to be home with Jacob.  It is also such a blessing to have Bill able to work from home most days.  Yes, he is working, but he is also able to spend his lunch time with his family and be with Jacob and I pray that he will also be able to experience every milestone Jacob achieves.  It was so wonderful the other day to have both of us there when he rolled over for the first time.  I know it sounds silly to say that we both watched our baby roll over, I mean really in the big scheme of things it's not that big of a deal, but it was beautiful knowing that we were all there, our family, experiencing it together.  When I look at the life we have we are truly blessed in so many ways.  Yes, we have a beautiful home and "toys" that we really don't need, but more importantly we have family and friends that love us and most importantly, we have the Lord Jesus Christ who died for us and rose again, just as He said He would.  So, again, thank you God for blessing our family in so many ways.  I pray that you continue to bless our family.  So until next time...Mommy and Daddy love you Jacob!  Happy Easter!

A new milestone

Goodness, I didn't realize it has been almost a week since we last posted something.  Sadly, our beloved Bruins did not make it into the Championship game this year.  Oh well, maybe next year.  We did have a good time watching the game though.  Ellen, Toon, Margaret, Jenn and Cooper all came over to watch the game.  But, when Cooper arrived, all we wanted to do was play with him.  Cooper wanted to play with Jacob, but Jacob was more interested in eating and sleeping at the time.  Maybe next time Cooper!

Two great things happened today.  First, after 11 days of no poop, Jacob finally pooped today!  Mommy and Daddy can't believe how obsessed with poop they've become.  Mommy even called the doctor because she thought it had been too long since he had poo pooed (is that how you spell that?).  The doctor told us that he was fine and well within what is normal. Good news for us.  The doctor's definitely know we are first time parents calling about our son not pooping for a few days! :)

Then tonight after his bath, mommy put Jacob on his tummy for tummy time and he actually rolled over to his back all by himself (no cheating this time).  We were so excited.  Luckily daddy caught the milestone on video so we can always remember that moment.

This past week Jacob was a little more fussy than usual and slept a lot more than he normally does.  Last night he slept for 10 hours straight then woke up played a little and then took an hour and a half nap!  Wow, were we shocked about that one.

Tomorrow we are going to meet one of Daddy's friends at Downtown Disney for lunch.  We still haven't decided if we are going to take Jacob to Disneyland before or after we meet for lunch.  I think it is going to depend on how he is doing at the time.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
