Disneyland

Today Jacob went to Disneyland with mommy, daddy, grandpa, Auntie Alana and cousin Jeanne.    Jacob was ready to go, he already had his morning nap in and was full of energy.  After a quick bottle (which he was almost holding himself) we headed to the Jungle Cruise.  This is the first ride Jacob has ever been on.  He did GREAT!  We thought he would get a little scared when they shot the gun off, but he was a trooper and wasn't phased by it at all.  Our next stop was Pirates of the Carribean.  Again he did great.  He did start to cry a little bit in the very dark parts, but mommy held on to him tight and calmed him down quickly.  After that, mommy and Jacob waited for as everyone went on Splash Mountain.  Jacob's still a little too young for that one and decided to eat some veggies while he was waiting.  Then we got on the Winnie the Pooh ride.  He definitely did not like that one.  It was REALLY loud in that ride and he was not having the loud noises.  So after that we decided to take a break and get a nap in while the others went on another ride.  Mommy and Jacob found a shady spot where it was nice a cool and Jacob took a little snooze.  When he woke up he was ready to go again.  We headed over to Indiana Jones where he waited and was watching all the people walk by.  He is one nosey kid.  Of course everyone commented on how adorable he was!  DUH!  Then we went to California adventure.  Wow, he was doing so well.  He loves kicking back in his stroller watching all the people.  he was playing with a bottle full of water and every so often took a little sip to keep himself hydrated:)  He had a great time playing with Grandpa as he ate waiting for Daddy, auntie and cousin to get off a scary ride.  After another ride for the grown ups it was back to Disneyland, and by this time, Jacob was pooped out.  Mommy took him to the baby center where he changed, had a bottle and was rocked to sleep.  When we got out, we decided to head home.  It was already 8:30 and way past his bedtime.  He was asleep in mommy's arms as we left Disneyland.  He did so well the entire day.  He wasn't fussy at all and made us all smile.  Grandpa loved spending the day with him as did his auntie and cousin.  We all enjoyed the day together.  We think Grandpa was just as pooped as Jacob was at the end of the night, but he was a trooper and was going to stay to see the fireworks with Alana and Jeanne.  Jacob's grandpa is the best!  Of course, Jacob was wearing his mickey ears most of the time, but now he knows how to take them off, so he was playing with them a lot.  He was wearing his pooh surfer outfit and looked adorable:)

This past Saturday was Jeanne's 20th birthday.  We went to the Parson's house for a birthday get together.  We had a great time spending time with the family.  Jacob was glad that he could spend his birthday with his oldest cousin!  He was almost crawling while he was there.  His cousin Kevin had fun putting toys in front of him in hopes that he would crawl to them.  He was definitely getting the toys, but he was using his military crawl, which is just fine.  He's good at getting what he wants.

On Sunday we just kicked back at our house.  Jacob helped his daddy BBQ some yummy ribs.  We put a blanket out on the grass and sat Jacob down.  Of course in less than 2 seconds he was trying to feel the grass... but he's a little too young for that itchy stuff so we kept having to pull him away from the edge of the blanket.  He may not crawl, but his is quick!

Well, Jacob is sound asleep.  I hope he has a good nights rest like he has the past couple of nights.  I know he is very tired tonight...and so am I so, until next time baby, mommy and daddy love you!

Swinging away

Jacob had a GREAT night last night, he pretty much slept from about 8pm to 7am.  He only woke up twice in search of his pacifier.  Wow, we were shocked this morning when we got to sleep in!  What a great feeling.  This afternoon we had lunch with Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Alana, Jeanne, Auntie Val and Danielle at a place near Auntie Val's work.  There was a farmer's market there so we walked around a little bit but we were all hungry so we went to get some lunch before Aunt Val had to go back to work.  While at lunch Jacob was supposed to have a bottle, but since there was so much going on he was not interested in laying back for a few minutes to eat.  Instead he refused the bottle and wanted to play with everyone.  It's a bit frustrating that when we are around others or in a new location Jacob is not interested in drinking his formula.  So he basically skipped a whole bottle today, that's not a good thing.  He was okay with eating some sweet potatoes and peaches, when he eats that he can sit up and see everything that is going on.  We are going to have to work on giving him bottles in public now:)

Later in the afternoon Jacob and I went to visit Nani and Papa, they really hadn't spent time with him since last week and in their words, that is too long.  Nani is feeling much better now and is able to hold Jacob again:)  Papa took Jacob to the park and put him in the swing for the first time.  He LOVED it.  Then two little girls came to swing next to him.  He was stretching his neck so he could watch them swing too.  He is so funny.  He has to be in the know of everything.  I think he was also trying to hear what they are talking about (I think he gets that trait from his mommy hehe).  So Papa and Jacob hung out for a while at the park just the two of them (and Harley of course).  When we got home, he drank his bottle (all of it, thank goodness) and went straight to sleep.  I think that swing ride wore him out.  Tomorrow we are going to pick up his 6 month pictures (finally).  I am so excited to see them.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you

7 months old already!

Seven months have FLOWN by.  Our little guy is getting bigger and stronger every day.  He is sitting up, smiles all the time and loves to talk.  We have major conversations with him now, yet we have no idea what we are talking about:).  He is eating a lot more these days.  I am pretty much done nursing him.  He only nurses when he wakes up early in the morning (between 4 and 5am), other than that he is on formula.  In some ways it's sad, but I also know that he is getting enough food now.  I know I wasn't giving him enough.  The weaning process was a breeze because I was already not producing a lot.  He loves to eat his food.  He has cereal (rice or oatmeal) and fruit in the morning, veggies (and sometimes fruit) for lunch and another veggie for dinner along with his bottles of formula.  Whenever daddy feeds him he gobbles up his food quickly.  I think it's because daddy gives him "daddy spoonfuls" whereas I tend to put less food on the spoon.  It's so funny how different we are when we care for him.  We change his diaper in different ways.  Of course I think the way I do it is the best way and he thinks the way he does it is the best way.  Either way, Jacob is cared for very well and loved very much by both of us.  Bill is still better at giving him a bottle.  He knows how to hold him just right so that he drinks up.  With me on the other hand, Jacob likes to look around and gets easily distracted.  I don't know what I'm doing, but it still takes me longer to give him a bottle.  Jacob is napping more consistently during the day and for longer periods of time.  He will ususally sleep for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours in the morning about a couple hours after he wakes up.  Then he'll take an afternoon nap at about 2 or so for about an hour and sometimes he take a quick snooze at about 5pm.  It is really nice when he naps during the day for several reasons, one, it gives me time to get stuff done, but also because he tends to sleep a little better at night.  I remember the days when he would only nap for 10-20 minutes at a time.  I thought I would never be able to get anything done during the day.  He is spitting up a lot less lately (but as I was thinking about writing about that and holding him at the same time, he spit up on me...too funny, but it was just a little bit, so no big deal).   Jacob loves to sit on the floor and play with his blocks and his stuffed baseball.  His favorite thing to look at is his fan in his room.  He just stares at the blades going round and round.

This weekend we were able to spend a lot of time with Auntie Alana and cousin Jeanne.  They were at our house Saturday night - Monday.  We had lots of fun with them.  Jacob had TONS of fun dancing with them.  Auntie Alana taught him how to do the cabbage patch, they looked so cute dancing together.  On Monday afternoon the girls babysat Jacob for a few hours while mommy had to take Nani to the doctors.  Apparently he was a pretty good boy for them.  He did give his Auntie a nice poopy diaper to clean up.  Jeanne put him down for his naps and sang to him.  How cute.  He did give them a hard time with the bottle, but he had to be a little bad for them, right?  We also got to see Auntie Val, Danielle and Scotty on Sunday night. We all went out to dinner together and that was a lot of fun.

Today we saw Jeanne and Danielle because we took them a surf board so they can go surfing at the beach today.  Jacob treated them to Coffee Bean and was very interested in mommy's drink and almost tried drinking out of the straw.  He was also very interested in the frozen loaf of bread daddy got out of the freezer this morning.  He was holding it over his head like he was a strong man.

Well, it's time to go play with Jacob.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Big boy tub:)

So what has Jacob been up to this week? Well the fan in his room looks great.  It is so cute, the base of it looks like a home plate with a catcher's mit holding a ball (the light) and the blades of the fan are in the shape of bats.  Adorable.  His room is so much cooler now at night.  He is sleeping a lot better.  He has been waking up between 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning and sometimes after he wakes up he will sleep for a few more hours after being nursed.  This morning he woke up at 6:45 and played in his crib until 7am.  Wow, that was nice!

Today Jacob took a bath in the big tub.  He LOVED it.  We got him some toys to play with and he was so interested in grabbing all of them.  He was so cute.  We got a chair for him (thanks Auntie Jenn for the suggestion of the chair).  It's great.  He can sit in the tub and play with his toys without me having to worry about him slipping all over the place.  I was able to bath him rather quickly while he played away.  we let him play for a little bit before we took him out.  I think he was a little sad when he got out.  but at least we know he will love bath time and we will too, getting a little less wet than before:)

This weekend we are babysitting (and yes, it's babysitting, not dogsitting) Harley.  Jacob is really starting to like him.  Harley got a haircut so that Jacob won't be as tempted to pull his hair.  This afternoon we sat Jake on the floor and let Harley go up to him.  Jake got a big smile on his face, Harley however, is a little reluctant to approach Jake. I think he remembers that he's the one who pulls out hair:)

Jacob is still not crawling, but he is really close.  he is getting really good at being on his hands and knees and rocking back and forth, but no movement from that position.  He is really good at moving around though.  I'm not quite sure how he does it, but his is pretty quick about it.  He like so sit on the floor and play with one of his stuffed balls.  His favorite is a big baseball that makes noise when you move it.  He will roll it around for a while and tries to get it when it gets out of his reach.  MOst of the time he'll get it, but he can't get back to the sitting position from his tummy yet, so mommy has to help him so he can continue playing with the ball.

He is getting a lot better about drinking from the bottle now.  He no longer fusses when you give him the bottle and now he is taking different kinds of bottles.  Which is great for us because using the other bottles was a bit difficult because you had to use different bottle to mix the formula in, which made for a lot of bottles to clean throughout the day.  Now he takes the drop ins so there is less clean up for mommy:)  yippee!  He is starting to eat a little more solids.  The other day he was especially hungry and ate two containers of veggies at lunch time.  Today I tried giving him some sweet potato puffs to see how he would react to them.  They are these puffs of sweet potato that melt in your mouth and are quite tasty.  Anyway, he's not quite ready for those yet.  I put a couple on his high chair table to see what he would do with them.  He grabbed one and stuck it in his fist, but never brought it to his mouth.  I broke one in half (even though they are already pretty small) and put it up to his mouth and he DID NOT LIKE IT.  The look on his face was priceless.  I don't think he was used to the texture.  That's okay, we'll try again in about a week.

We finally got Jacob's birth certificate this week.  I can't believe I took so long to get it.  So we know he's offical with the county.  We needed it for his medical insurance.  They were about to cut him off!  That would not have been good!
Alright, time for me to hit the sack.  so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Jacob this week

Jacob had a pretty busy week.  On Monday mommy and daddy went out to dinner for our wedding anniversary.  Nani and Papa came over to babysit Jacob.  It was nice to go out just the two of us, but I will say most of the time we talked about Jacob.  We got home fairly early, but our little baby was already asleep.

Tuesday and Thursday of this week Jacob went swimming again.  He is liking the water more and more.  His favorite part is jumping in.  He standing at the edge of the pool and as I count 1-2-3 his little legs bounce with the counting each time getting lower and lower so that he gets a good jump into the water.  He makes me laugh.  This week it was just mommy and Jacob in the pool because daddy has to work:(  Oh well.

Wednesday we had Jacob's 6 month pictures taken (finally) and we also did a family picture.  I think this is our first official family picture.  Jacob did a great job being photographed.  We got some really good shots.  He was a little wobbly sitting up so we had to stand by just in case.

Thursday afternoon Jacob had his music class.  I think he likes it okay.  He seems to get a little bored sitting on my lap the whole time. He would rather be standing and jumping on my lap, unlike the rest of the kids in the class who sit on their mommy's laps patiently.  Not our little Jacob, he would rather be a little more active.  We had some floor time during the class where the babies were supposed to sit there and shake their maracas.  I was completely surprised that Jacob was sitting up all by himself, rather steady, for the whole song.  This was the first date that he sat up without being wobbly.  Later that night, mommy went to have dinner with her friends for Ellen's birthday.  Daddy was in charge.  I'm not exactly sure what went on, but I do know that Jacob was fed and asleep by the time mommy got home.  Daddy said they had a great time together.  It was nice for me to get out and hang out with the girls, but I did miss my little guy when I was gone!

Today we got a cute ceiling fan for his room.  It has a baseball mit in the center and the blades of the fan look like bats.  Totally adorable.  Tomorrow daddy and papa are going to put it up in his room.  I can't wait to see what it looks like.

Some new things Jacob is doing/likes.  First, he loves to be startled.  Daddy will say "boo" to him when he is not expecting it and Jacob cracks up laughing.  It is so cute to hear him laugh.  He is also starting to play peek-a-boo.  The other day Jacob and daddy were sitting in the big chair and I was sitting on the couch.  I layed down so he couldn't see me and then raised my head and made some silly sound and he laughed.  Then I ducked down again and he was looking for me.  When I lifted up again and made the sound he laughed so hard.  We played this for a couple of minutes and he loved it.  He is getting a lot better at moving around on the ground.  He's still not crawling, but he gets around well.  He does lift up on his arms and knees and rocks back and forth, but no movement with the belly off the ground.  Speaking of bellies, he is starting to get a little tummy and his legs are getting chunkier.  he really likes his solid foods.  Right now on his menu is rice cereal, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, carrots, peaches and pears.  This morning I ran out of fruits and veggies (bad mommy).  I tried giving him his oatmeal plain, with no fruit and he was not having it.  I think he has gotten used to the sweet taste with his cereals.  Now he is stocked up so tomorrow morning he will have peaches and oatmeal:)  He loves his exersaucer.  He has really gotten the hang of all the toys on it and LOVES to bounce up and down in it.  When we first got it, he didn't know how to bounce up and down in it, but now he goes crazy in it.  We've switched out a couple of the toys and he loves the new ones.  he can sit in that thing for along time and amuse himself.  He is sitting up a lot better now and can even turn to either side without toppling over.  he still loves to chew on his fingers, especially the thumb.  He sticks his thumb on the side of his mouth and knaws away.  No teeth yet and we don't feel any coming either.  He is doing a lot better with drinking from the bottle.  He doesn't fight us as much when we give him a bottle now.  He is still a little bit ansy, but not as bad as before, there are times when he takes it without any fuss at all, those are mommy and daddy's favorite times:) He is still not sleeping through the night.  He wakes up usually two times.  Once in the late evening and it's usually because he's spit his pacifier out and can't find it to put it back in his mouth and then again around 2 am because he wants to eat.  I really really really wish he would start sleeping through the night.  Tonight, he woke up at 10pm and I tried to let him put himself back to sleep.  Unfortunately after crying for about 5 minutes I just upset him even more and had a hard time putting him back to sleep.  He was SCREAMING when I picked him up and let me have it while I was holding him trying to calm him down.  I guess eventually he will soothe himself back to sleep, it's just going to take some time.  I would also really love it if he didn't need to wake up to eat.  I don't want to complain, but I am finding that my lack of sleep is making me really grumpy at times.  it wouldn't be so bad if I would fall right back to sleep, but that is not the case.  I'm usually up for a couple of hours after he wakes up...it's frustrating, but I know eventually he will sleep through the night and I will only have to remember the days when I didn't sleep at night.  But until then I guess I just have to deal with waking up a couple of times a night and getting very little sleep.  Oh well, that's what being a mommy is all about.

So now I will try to get some of that sleep that I need, but I hear him stirring in his room.  I hope he doesn't wake up right now, it's only been about 30 minutes since I was able to calm him down.  so until next time...mommy and daddy love you baby!

Another Birthday Party

We had yet another birthday party this weekend.  This time it was for Alina, Jacob's soon-to-be cousin.  She turned 2 years old and had a Princess party.  Jacob said he's had enough with the princess themes...he's only been to two girl birthdays and both times they are all about princesses!  He ended up taking 2 naps while we were there...but we were there for a long time because mommy and Nani got there early to help get things ready for Auntie Vanessa and Grandnina.  I'm actually glad that he took a couple of naps during the day.  Now that he is on a more regular 2-3 naps per day he is sleeping much better during the night.  Last night he went to sleep at about 8pm and didn't wake up until 5:30am.  That is good for him.  He didn't even wake up because he could't find his pacifier.  We all got a really good night's rest.  Then he woke up again at 7am, played a little with mommy and daddy in bed, I nursed him, daddy made him cereal and pears (and fed it to him), he had a little more formula and by 9:15 he was out again....until 12:30!!!!  i couldn't believe it.  Daddy took a little catnap at the same time (and I will admit, I dozed off for about 20 minutes).  My baby was tired from the party yesterday.  So needless to say, we missed church because Jacob was sleeping and I dare not wake him up!  When he woke up we went on a couple of errands and he fell asleep on the way home and took about a 45 minute nap when we got home.

Later in the evening, I left daddy and Jacob together while I went to get a gift.  When I got home I had to laugh because daddy was just finishing up cleaning a very dirty diaper and proceeded to tell me all about how hyper Jacob was while I was gone.  I secretly gave Jacob a high five!

Jacob has been eating more and more formula during the day.  I am definitely not producing enough for him to eat anymore.  So now I'm nursing him in the middle of the night, if he wakes up, in the morning (but then giving him solids and sometimes forumla too) and right before he goes to sleep (again, also giving him formula if he still seems hungry).  In a way I'm a little sad about it, but I'm also glad that he is finally eating more and I hope he gains a little bit of weight in the process.  If he doesn't I'm okay with that, I guess he will just be a skinny baby.

Tomorrow is Bill and my 2nd wedding anniversary.  I can't believe all that has happened in the past two years.  Today I was thinking about our first date.  On that date Bill asked me where I saw myself in 5 years.  Without hesitation I said, hopefully married and starting a family (once it came out of my mouth, I thought I should have hesitated a little and thought about what I said first, I didn't want to scare the guy off).   Well 3 years later, look where we are.  I really didn't think that this is how my life would have turned out.  Three years ago, though I said that's where I wanted to be, never did I actually believe that it would happen so fast.  I love my life and wouldn't change anything, especially my wonderful husband and now my darling baby boy.  Tomorrow we are going out to dinner to celebrate and Nani and Papa are coming over to babysit Jacob.  I'm sure they are excited about that.

So, until we post again, Mommy and Daddy love you Jacob!

Our little swimmer

Tuesday Jacob had his first swim lesson.  We are taking "swimming" lessons at the YMCA.  Really it's just a chance for Jacob to get used to the water twice a week for 30 minutes.  Jeanne spent the night with us Monday night so she came along with us to see Jacob swim.  He was ready with his blue fish trunks, green shirt (to keep the sun off of his chest and back), hat and sunscreen.  Jacob and I entered the pool and he loved it from the very beginning.  He was so cute when I put him on his belly with his head out of the water of course.  His little legs started kicking like a little frog.  Adorable!  I think his favorite part was when he got to go on the fish surf board with Ms. Tracy, his instructor.  He was laying on the surfboard and enjoying the ride she took him on around the pool.  He also liked "jumping in" the pool.  He was so cute.  Daddy was there to catch the whole time on video.  It was a hot day and the water felt great.  Jacob was worn out afterward.  He fell asleep not more than 5 minutes into the car ride home and slept as daddy got him out of the car and put him into his crib for a 2 hour nap!!!!  We couldn't believe it.  He was really tired.

When he finally woke up, we quickly fed him and were on our way to his friend Luke's house to meet up with his family for a late lunch/early dinner near their house.  We put the boys on the table and they looked like little boxers going after eachother, each was so curious about who the other person his size was.  They were so cute.  After our meal we went to Luke's house to 'kick it" with him for a little while and then we were on our way home.

Wednesday was Jacob's first 4th of July.  We spent the afternoon at the Gunnin's for a BBQ.  Jacob went swimming again with his Daddy and Papa.  He had a great time playing with a ball in the pool.  Jeanne and Grandpa also joined us for the BBQ which was a lot of fun.  Jacob had a good time being rocked by Jeanne and sung to by her, Whitney and Andrew.  He fell asleep in Jeanne's arms until daddy came and woke him up!  He wasn't able to make it long enough to see any fireworks, but I'm sure he saw some in his dreams.

Thursday it was back to swim lessons at 11am.  Today both mommy and daddy were in the pool with Jacob.  I think Jacob had more fun with his daddy today.  He made a couple of friends there, two other boys close in age to him.  Today he only took an hour nap after his lessons because he was HUNGRY!  Later in the afternoon he had his music class.  There we sang lots of songs and he was able to play the maracas and the drums.  Jacob was more into dancing than playing the instruments.  You would have thought there were springs in his legs, he was jumping up and down so much.  I think he liked the music we were singing.  With about 5 minutes left in our class he decided he had enough and was ready to go home.  Poor baby, he had a long day and was wanting another nap.  Daddy was there again to catch everything on video.  Bill was able to take the last couple of days off so that he could be there to see Jacob swim for the first time.  It was fun having daddy in the pool today.

Tomorrow we are going to relax since Jacob had a very busy Thursday.  Plus we have to rest up for Alina's birthday party on Saturday...wow, this kid gets invited to more birthday parties than his mommy and daddy!  He is one busy baby!  So until we write again, mommy and daddy love you!

We think Jacob is catching his first cold.  His nose (actually just the right side of his nose) has been a little runny.  Not too bad, but the aspirator is definitely needed at times, which he HATES!  I hope he doesn't get a full blown cold.  he has been waking up a lot each night and we can't figure out exactly why.  I hope he is okay tonight though!
