Tough Week

We've had a pretty tough week so far.   We think Jacob is teething because he is waking up throughout the night crying.  We are giving him some teething tablets and they seem to help a little bit.  The other problem we are having is that he somehow got off his normal schedule.  He is no longer drinking his bottle right before he goes to sleep which means he wakes up at around midnight HUNGRY!  A couple of nights ago mommy and daddy pretty much lost it with him.  He was up at least 3 times and just would not calm down.  He ate twice that night, it was the only thing to get him to settle down. So I need to work on getting him back on his schedule.  Today was a pretty good day as far as his feedings, but then at his dinner time feeding he only drank 3 ounces and then only had about 1 ounce (and that's saying a lot) for his evening bottle.  I'm wondering if his teething has something to do with his lack of appetite.  He is still eating his solids well, so I don't know what it is about those afternoon bottles that he doesn't like.  I have been giving him his bottles in his high chair because holding him while he drinks his bottle is like holding a small heater.  Both he and I get really hot.  He likes sitting up to have his bottle anyway.

Today he tried cheerios for the first time.  Well, actually, let me rephrase that.  I put cheerios on his highchair tray for the first time and he mostly played with them.  He didn't try putting them near his mouth. Yet, when he is crawling on the floor and finds something that small that shouldn't go in his mouth, he puts it in his mouth anyway...go figure...he's a baby.  Anyway by the end of the day there were many cheerios on the floor.  At lunch time I tried giving him some fresh banana.  He did not care for the baby food packages of banana, so I thought maybe he would like a fresh one.  Nope, I think he just doesn't like bananas.  I put a piece in his mouth (because again, he wouldn't put it in his own mouth) and the look on his face was priceless!  He made so many funny faces as he was chewing it around in his mouth.  It was hysterical.  Unfortunately, I was the only one home to enjoy the moment. Maybe we'll try the banana again in a week or so.

Daddy fed him dinner today and then Jacob sat in his high chair eating a wagon wheel as mommy and daddy ate their dinner.  During our dinner, Bill was waving at Jacob saying "hi" and all of a sudden Jacob waved back to him with his left hand.  Well, he opened and closed his hands in the motion of a wave.  He did it a couple more times but would not do it for us when we got the video camera out.  He was so cute.  But we still don't know if he was mimicking daddy or if he was trying to get the sticky food off his hand:)

Well, I guess that's all for tonight.  Here's hoping for a good night's rest for all of us tonight.  But I have a feeling that since he's only had about 4 ounces in the last 8 hours he will be up tonight wanting to EAT!  So much for sleeping through the night.   Despite it all, mommy and daddy love you!

Daddy's Home!

Friday morning when I walked into Jacob's room to get him out of his crib, Jacob was standing in his crib waiting for me!  I couldn't believe it.  He had been trying pull himself up in his crib for a while, but just couldn't quite reach.  Well now he can.  All day Friday Jacob was fussy.  I think it's teething, but I've been saying that for a LONG time now.  Who knows what it was.  All I know is that by the end of the day I was pretty much done with him.  If I walked out of his sight for one second while he was playing, he would start screaming.  Needless to say, I pretty much got nothing done on Friday.  The good thing about Friday was that daddy was due home that night.  Jacob and I went to the airport to pick him up.  We got there a little early because I anticipated traffic, but fortunately there was none.  So instead of driving around the airport hearing Jacob cry in the back of the cry, we parked the car and decided to go in and wait for daddy.  Jacob enjoyed his time there.  He was watching all the people walk by and had fun chatting with another lady waiting there.  When daddy finally came down the escalators, he didn't even see us standing there.  I had to yell his name a couple of times for him to turn around to see us.  He was surprised that we were there waiting for him.  He was so happy to see Jacob there and took him in his arms right away.  The rest of the night Jacob played with daddy until he went to sleep in daddy's arms after daddy gave him a bottle.

Saturday morning we woke up and played with Jacob then went for a ride to Coffee Bean for breakfast.  Daddy was in Seattle and didn't have one coffee when he was there, can you believe that!  Anyway, Jacob had his breakfast there with us.  Later in the afternoon we joined some family for a car show at Friend's Church in Yorba Linda. A friend's car was on display there and daddy was hoping to take a spin in the Ferrari after the show.  Jacob liked seeing all the cars and people.

This morning Jacob woke up early and played in our bed for about 30 minutes and then decided to go back to sleep.  So we all took a little nap early in the morning and then woke and got ready for church.  Jacob loves to make friends in the mommy room at church.  Today he played with two little boys about his age.  It was so fun to see them interact with eachother.  THey were playing with their toys and wanting to figure out what the other baby was all about.  After church we went to lunch with Chris and Leanne and then came home and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon.

Jacob is really pulling up to stand on everything now.  He can finally pull himself up on the couch and he starting to take some steps while standing holding on to the couch.  It makes us a little nervous because he tries to be brave and let go, which is great, but I don't want him falling and hitting his head on the hard wood floors.  So I just watch him closely as he is holding on to the couch.  It is so much fun to watch him explore everything from his new vantage point.  He would much rather be standing now then sitting or crawling, but he still does a lot of that too.  At bath time he is splashing in the water a lot more.  He loves bath time and really needs them now since he is pretty much cleaning our floors everyday.  It's kind of embarrassing to see how dirty the floors are when we see the tops of his feet at the end of the day.  It seems like no matter how much we clean them they are always dirty.  I guess I need to do a better job at cleaning the floors! (I think daddy would agree!).

I did buy some teething tablets this afternoon to give to Jacob when he wakes up screaming in the middle of the night.  I think some teeth are trying to break through and hopefully these tablets will ease the discomfort he is feeling.  I hope it works, so that maybe we can get a restful night's sleep:)  so we'll see how that goes.  So until next time... mommy and daddy love you!

Disney with Friends and Cute Pictures

Yesterday, Jacob and Mommy went to Disneyland with one of Jacob's friends from swim, Christian and his mommy, Christina.  Jacob and Christian had a great time together.  They were so fun to watch.  When we first arrived we were greeted by Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale, so of course we had to get some pictures with them.  We got on three rides and Jacob loved them all.  First we went on Casey Jr. Train.  We were in the monkey cages...quite appropriate I thought, with my little monkey, Jake.  Then we went on It's a Small World.  Jacob LOVED it.  His eyes were glued to all the little dolls and his mouth was open the entire time.  I was trying to talk to him, but he was so not listening to me...he was way too interested in the characters.  Then we waited in line for Storybook.  Jake liked it, but it was a little hot and there want much shade during the ride so I think he was a little uncomfortable.  AFter the rides we made a "pit" stop in the restrooms for some quick diaper changes.  The boys were in their strollers waiting and they were reaching over to eachother trying to play with one another...it was so adorable.  The mommy's got hungry and decided to get some lunch where we could sit inside to cool off.  The boys were great in their high chairs.  Jacob had a blast with the menu the waitress gave him.  He was moving it all over the place.  Good thing it was make out of paper and they didn't ask for it back because it was thrashed by the time he was done with it.  A couple of the watiresses stopped by our table to say hi to the boys.  Of course Jacob was all smiles and flirting with the girls.  This kid is going to be a ladies man.  After lunch we decided to go home, we had already been there for a lot longer than we expected to be, but the boys had a good time and that's all that mattered!  While at Disney, I tried putting Jacob in our front carrier and he was crying and crying.  I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him because he usually likes being in it and it had been a while so I thought maybe he wasn't used to it.  Then Christina pointed out to me that his legs were red in the area where the material was touching him.  He was too big for the leg openings.  Fortunately there was a way to adjust it to make it bigger, so I did that and then he was fine.  My baby is getting so big and starting to grow out of things:(  What a big boy!

Today, Auntie Annette watched Jacob for a couple of hours while mommy went to a doctor's appointment.  I think they had a great time together.  Then we went and had Jacob's picture taken in his swim trunks and shirt.  The picutres came out ADORABLE.  He was in a great mood for the pictures and the photographer was great.  She got some really great shots of him on a surf board...way too cute.  We can hardly wait to show daddy the pictures.  Speaking of which, daddy comes home tomorrow.  We are both really excited about that.  I think daddy and Jacob are going to spend all of Saturday together.

About 2 days ago, Jacob learned how to stick his tongue out and make "raspberries."  This has now become one of his favorite things to do, especially when he's eating, which makes for especially messy meal times.  it is really cute when he does it though.  He seems proud of himself because he can do this now.  Yesterday while at Disneyland he was eating some green beans and I think more green beans got on his arms and legs and on my arm than did in his mouth.  I think he was also doing it more because Christina and I were laughing at him everytime he did it.  He is definitely a ham.  Today, Nani was feeding him dinner and he started doing it to her too, but she was smart and stopped feeding him when he started that!  I guess that's what experience gets you..clean clothes:)

Alright...time to hit the hay.  SO until next time...mommy and daddy love you.

Missing Daddy

Jacob and I went swimming this morning and daddy joined us.  Then Papa showed up at the pool to watch Jacob swim.  Jacob was showing off how he jumps in the water and swims after the ducky.  When it was his turn to go on the fish surfboard, he decided that instead of laying down, he was going to sit up to show Ms. Tracy what a big boy he is.  Of course Ms. Tracy was very impressed.

Later in the afternoon we went to drop daddy off at the airport.  He had to go to Seattle for a meeting and won't be home until Friday night:(  Jake and mommy miss daddy a lot already and can't wait for him to get home.  This is daddy's first time away from Jacob and he was really sad to leave, but it's only a few days and he'll be home before we know it.

So until next time...mommy and daddy love you (and daddy misses you!)

Jacob's first crush, well sort of...

Poor Jacob had a busy weekend with mommy.  Saturday we had two showers to go to.  One was a baby shower for Jennifer Nicastro.  She's having a boy and is due any day now.  She looked great and we had a lot of fun at the shower.  Jacob was all smiles to all the women there and had fun playing with his toys and getting passed around for a little while.  Then we picked up Nani and went to the Duran house for a bridal shower for Lauren.  She and Robert are getting married in Hawaii in October...how nice.  Jacob was a good boy there too.  He was a little tired there becuase he really didn't get a good nap in the afternoon, but he was a trooper.  When we got home he was pooped and was glad to see his daddy...a break from all the women he spent the day with.

Cute funny story about Jacob Saturday morning.  Mommy learned a lesson with this story.  So, daddy left early in the morning to spend the day with his mommy and daddy:)  Jacob really needed to take a bath Sat. morning becasue he didn't get one the night before and he was a dirty baby.  I was getting him ready to get in the bath tub.  So as I was filling up the bath tub, I thought it would be smart to multi-task since to speed up the process (mistake #1).  I had Jacob in our room playing on the floor with a couple of toys...I knew he couldn't get into too much trouble there.  So after turning on the water and getting it to the right temperature, I went into my room to undress Jacob.  I had him completely nudey:) and left him in the room playing with the toy as I went back into the bathroom to turn off the water (mistake #2).  When I returned, I found Jacob sitting on the floor playing with his toy in a puddle of peepee...oops.  I guess that's why babies wear diapers all the time.  I had to laugh at the situation.  Of course he had no problem sitting in his own urine playing with his toy.  I think I might have been gone for a whoel 15 seconds...just enough time to walk the 10 steps to the bathroom, turn the knob and walk back another 10 steps.  I guess that is all it takes for a little one to tinkle.  We've really never had problems with him tinkling when we change his diaper.  I think maybe he's gotten us 2 or 3 times total.  Maybe I sat him under the air conditioning vent and it turned on just as I left the room and he got cold and out it came.  I am lucky that it was #1 and not #2...that would have been gross.  So now I know...I can't take his diaper off until he is just about to go into the tub...either that or I need to turn off the water and THEN get him undressed so he goes straight into the tub.  Oh well, lesson learned.

Today, while at church, Jacob played with a 3 month old little girl. I think this is his first crush:).  He could not stop touching her.  It was cute and funny.  Fortunately, the mom was really nice and allowed Jacob to play with her daughter.  He was being nice and touching nice, not smacking her and pulling on her face like he does with mommy and daddy. I don't think I've seen him more interested in anything else like he was with her.  He must have been playing with her for a good 15 minutes.  Everytime I tried taking him away, he would cry.  I tried distracting him with different toys and he pushed the toy away, or didn't even pay attention to it...he was focused on little Haley.  She was a pretty baby, so at least we know he has good taste.  The funniest part was that there were two other little girls in the room, both also laying on the floor and she was the only one he went after.  She was a blondie with blue eyes.

After church we went with Nani and Papa to visit Uncle Rick and Auntie Martha.  We just found out that they are moving to Seattle next weekend.  Boy were we in shock about that one.  We thought they were going to be moving to Tennessee next year, but nope...Uncle Rick got a great job at Microsoft so they leave next weekend for Seattle.  They were packing up their stuff for the movers who are coming on Thursday.  So now we have another place to go visit family.  We can go back east to Virginia, to the south in Georgia, to the desert in Arizona or the Pacific northwest to Washington.  I hope no one else wants to move away from us!

So Jacob had a busy weekend and he is pooped.  I told tomorrow we will lay low and relax at our house...plus I need to get a lot of laundry done:)  Daddy is leaving for a business trip to Seattle on Tuesday so I guess we should send him off with clean clothes:)  Until next time...mommy and daddy love you

Disney AGAIN!!!

Yesterday Daddy had a lunch meeting in Downtown Disney so Jacob and I decided to join him in the drive and spent the afternoon in Disneyland and California adventure.  It was a pretty hot day so we stayed in the shade and in air conditioned buildings.  Jacob took a nap in the animation building.  Mommy got to watch cartoons and listen to Disney music while Jacob slept for about 30-45 minutes.  It was nice and cool in there, so mommy didn't mind.  Then we met daddy and his friend Kyle from work at Disneyland.  Of course Jacob went on Pirates again.  He did much better this time.  When it got dark he buried his head into his daddy's chest.  It was so cute.  The rest of the time he was looking at the scenery.  Then we took Jacob on the Train.  He loved seeing everything go past him.  Again, when it was dark he buried himself.  Jacob had his lunch while Daddy and Kyle went on Indiana Jones.  While waiting for them to get out, Jacob smiled at everyone getting off the ride.  Most of them commented on how cute and smiley he was.  I must say, I was a proud mommy at that moment.  AFter the ride we left the park.  We were all hot.

Today, Jacob was back in the pool.  We missed the last two sessions and everyone missed us.  He was kicking he feet a lot today.  It was another warm day so it felt GREAT to be in the pool.  This evening daddy gave Jacob a bath all by himself.  He sometimes assists in giving baths but has never done it by himself.  He did a great job.  He was a little annoyed that Jacob kept playing with his "parts".  He has become fascinated with "it."  Instead of playing with his toys in the bath tub, he spent most of the time playing with "it"  Daddy was not too happy about that, and I spent the whole time laughing.  I can now hear Jacob and daddy having a conversation in the room.  Daddy is changing Jacob into his PJs and they are talking about something, I just don't know what...it's all in baby language.  I did hear Jacob giving his daddy a hard time when he was putting on his diaper and pjs.  Jacob does not like to be still to have his diaper changed.  He would much rather be moving all around and playing with anything he can get his hands on.  He is also still not a fan of putting his arms through clothing.  I thought that was a phase he was going through, but no, he's been like that for a long time now.  I guess he wants to have control of his hands and arms.  Jacob and his daddy have a great time together.  Today while I was at the store, daddy was cleaning up a little and Jake was following him around everywhere...the kid can really get around now!  He is so cute.

We update our pictures on the website using a new gallery.  I really like it because now I can upload the pictures to the internet.  The other one we used was very difficult to upload pictures.  So now, hopefully we will be updating the photos more often...if I can get around to doing it.  I still have a little work to do, but at least we are caught up on posting our pictures to the web.

Alright, I'm going to go play with Jacob a little before it's his bed time.  Until next time....mommy and daddy love you

Cry Baby

Today we spent the afternoon at Nani and Papas house waiting for their new kitchen appliances to be delivered.  Jacob was a bit of a cry baby today.  I am thinking that he is teething, but I've said that before and still no teeth.  He was also pretty sleepy, but wouldn't take more than 30-45 minute naps.  When we arrived at their house Jacob started to play with some toys and the minute I left the room to go to the kitchen he started screaming his head off!  I don't know what the problem was.  I was still in sight of him, just higher up.  Anyway, I think it was partly because he was sleepy.  When he wasn't crying, he had a good time playing with Harley.  He loves to watch him run around.  Harley was even brave and approached Jacob.  Fortunately for Harley, Jacob did not grab at him and try to pull his hair.  He just watched him and laughed when he moved around.

Jacob is really crawling all over the place now.  Yesterday morning I was washing some dishes and Jacob was playing in the family room.  All of a sudden it was really quiet, so I went to check on him.  I found him sitting in front of the fish tank, looking up at all the fish.  It was so cute.  He was just sitting there admiring the fish.  I was able to take one picture before he noticed me watching him.  It happened again this morning.  I think he likes watching them swim around in their tank.  He is getting more mobile now and taking longer journeys as he crawls.  Today he made it all the way to the slidind door and wanted to explore the trash can!  Gross!  Of course I did not let that happen.

He is getting extra difficult when it comes to changing his diaper.  Oh my goodness, he turns all over the place and it is difficult to put that diaper on him.  When I try to control him he starts crying which makes things even harder.  Oh well, I guess that's just what babies do.  But of course I always win...He's never gone without a diaper:)

A couple of days ago we were in daddy's office and Jacob discovered the door stop.  He was hitting it and loved watching it go back and forth.  He must have hit it about 15-20 times before he got bored with it.

Yesterday we went to the Irvine Spectrum and walked around a little bit.  Jacob got hungry so we found a shady spot near the water fountain and Jacob watched the kids play in the fountain while he ate his peas.  The little boy next to us commented on Jacob's food that it was "yucky"  I told him that Jacob loved his vegetables.  Jacob loves watching other kids play.  I wonder if he is wishing he could be running around with them.  Speaking of running around.  Jacob's new thing is that he is trying to stand up without pulling up on something.  He will straighten out his legs while his hands are still on the ground and then gets frustrated because he can't go beyond that move.  He looks he's on a poster for the theory of evolution being something between the monkey and man walking upright.  I'm sure in no time he will be standing straight up.  It's kind of a scary thought knowing that in a short time he will be walking.  It's crazy.  I was watching him crawl to his room today and reflected on the time when we had him in his jungle gym and he just layed there on his back unable to do anything else but stare up at those things hanging down at him.  He wouldn't even move his arms to try to reach them.  Now, anything he can see is a target to be touched and it's usually things he shouldn't be touching.  I know people have always said this and it's so true, kids don't play with toys you buy them, they make toys out of everyday objects.  It is so true.  We can have all his toys layed out on the floor and if there is a magazine in his sight, he goes straight for it or anything else for that matter, even his daddy's stinking socks and shoes.  I guess this is going to make keep the house clean.  I know I have to keep the floors clean now because he goes everywhere and I don't want him putting yucky stuff in his mouth.

We also purchased his big car seat yesterday.  I am going to have to find a place that will make sure we have it properly installed before we put the little guy in it.  Maybe I can find somewhere that will install it for us.  Not that I don't trust Bill, but it would be nice to have a professional put it in for us.

Alright, I'm going to get some sleep now, so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Happy Birthday Uncle RJ

This is daddy posting...  Saturday was a fun day for all of us.  We first went for a walk to Tropical Cafe with Jakester and had breakfast before heading out to shop for a new car seat.  We eventually ended up at Babies-R-Us in Brea and took a look at all the cool car seats.  The one we were looking at was a Britax Decathalon.  It was the top-of-the-line and was very cool looking too!  Missy read about it and the reviews also said it was the safest - so that's cool too!

okay, now this is mommy.  I did some research into the best car seat for us and found that the one mentioned above is the best one for us.  Unfortunately, when we went to Babies R Us, they only had a brown one and though it doesn't really matter what color it is, I would prefer it to somewhat match the interior of our car.  So I will have to purchase it online to get a grey one.

Later in the afternoon mommy and Jacob went grocery shopping as daddy went to a tennis match with his dad and some friends.  Jacob and mommy spent the rest of the evening playing.  Jacob is really pulling up on things, mostly mommy.  He is now trying to climb over me and almost did a somersault yesterday.  After his dinner I gave Jake a sippy cup to try to get him to drink out of it.  This was my second attempt with it.  He really liked to chew on the spout, but when he finally got some water out of it, I think he kind of liked it.  He took a few sips, but I think he preferred biting on the spout.  He's definitely teething.

Today, Sunday, we went to Uncle RJ's house to celebrate his birthday.  There were lots of people there and Jacob was a little overwhelmed.  He was holding on tight to mommy, daddy and Nani.  He was a little hesitant to go with other people.  He did have a good time playing with Papa and PJ.  He didn't eat very well over there because it was really loud and he was very distracted.  But when we got home we gave him another bottle and he should be okay for tonight:)  When he was playing with Papa today, Papa said that Jacob was holding on the the railing and then let go and stayed standing for 2 whole seconds!  Wow, he usually falls right on his bum once he lets go of something.  I guess he's making progress.  With all the people and the loud noises, he did very well.  In general he's getting a little more hesitant about going with people he's never seen before.  He's fine with faces he recognizes, and he used to be fine with those he didn't know but lately, he will sort of pull away from people he doesn't really know.  I guess it's a good thing, but I also don't want him to be so attached to us that he won't go with friends and family.

Alright, tomorrow Jacob and mommy are going to hang out at the Irvine Spectrum while daddy is at an appointment.  It will get us out of the house to do something new.  Auntie Jenn says they have a fun train there that Cooper loves, so maybe we'll take Jacob on that tomorrow.  So until we write about our adventures at the Irvine Spectrum...mommy and daddy love you.

Play time with Jacob

Jacob has been busy crawling all over the place.  He is really good at getting around now and can go from crawling to a sitting position with no problems.  When he wakes up in the morning we find him sitting up in his crib just looking around his room.  He is so cute. He sometimes reminds me of a little cub.  Yesterday he started pulling up to stand on his own.  He pretty much only does it when he's pulling up on his mommy and daddy though.  I think our cushions on the couch are a little to high for him to reach still.

Yesterday Jacob and I went to exchange some shoes.  A friend of mine got him a really cute pair of Robeez, but they were off white and I had a feeling we were going to have to wash those everyday...so we went and exchanged them for another pair.  THey had several different kind at the store, but Jacob got to choose between a dragon and race car.  He chose the race car and mommy was pleased, they blue and yellow (UCLA colors:)) and have yellow race cars on them.  Jacob loves them and loved the package they came in.  He did not want to give them up when we took them to the cashier.  Fortunately, the cashier scanned it quickly and gave them right back to Jacob.  He loves his new shoes and has worn them proudly the last two days.

Today we went to visit Nani after she got off of work.  We played on his new play pads that we got so we can play on the floor at Nani and Papa's house.  They were lots of fun.  They are very colorful and have the alphabet on them. when Papa got home, Jacob played with him too.  Then he got hungry and had a bottle and ate some food in his new chair.  We got a booster chair with a tray so Jacob can eat his food at Nani and Papa's without having to sit on someone's lap.  He really liked it.  Papa fed Jacob his dinner as Nani provided the entertainment of peek-a-boo.  After dinner we went to the park to take Harley and Capone (who has been visiting for the week).  Jacob strolled around for a while and then went on the swing again.  He LOVES being on the swing.  He was watching all the cars drive by and just chilling on the swing.  He didn't want to leave.  Nani didn't have as much fun at the park because Capone was slobbering all over her and she had his drool EVERYWHERE!  There was so much on her, she couldn't even give Jacob a hug goodby...mommy said that it was gross and didn't want it to get on Jacob, mommy is definitely not a dog person.  Then daddy called and said we had to get home because he was hungry (as so was mommy).  Jacob played a little more when he got home and then quickly became hungry and tired.  After a bottle he fell asleep in mommy's arms as she was trying to burp him.  Poor baby, he was so tired after all that fun at the park.

So until next time my baby, mommy and daddy love you!

Pulling up and eating toast

Today is Uncle RJ's birthday.  We called him today and  had Jacob leave him a message...it was mostly heavy breathing:)  We will see him on Sunday to wish him a happy birthday in person!

Yesterday afternoon daddy lowered Jacob's mattress in his crib.  He is beginning to hold on to things and pull himself up.  He mainly holds on to mommy or daddy to pull himself up...well actually he likes to try to pull himself up on us when we are lying on the floor playing with him so that he can climb all over us.  He is so cute to watch when he is trying to pull himself up.  When he finally stands up, he has a look of accomplishment on his face.  He is so proud of himself and we are cheering for him so that makes him happy too!  Last night daddy and Jacob had daddy/son time.  I went to dinner with friends to celebrate Alesxa's birthday.  When I left the boys, Jacob was climbing all over his daddy and his daddy was loving it.  While at dinner mommy found out that Jacob's Auntie Jenn is going to have another little boy in January:)  Yeah, another boy for Jacob to play with.  Mommy was really hoping Auntie Jenn would have a girl, but a boy is great.  Now little Cooper will have a buddy to play with all the time.

Tonight after Jacob's dinner of mixed veggies I tried giving him some toast so that he can start learning to feed himself and chew.  When I gave it to him, he was playing with the piece for a little while, banging it on the high chair.  I only gave him half and used the other half showed him how mommy eats it.  I showed him a few times and then he finally put his piece toward his mouth.  It is funny because anything else he grabs goes directly to his mouth, everything but food.  Silly boy!  So when he first put it in his mouth he wasn't quite sure what to do with it.  It was crumbling off onto his lips and he sort of didn't like it.  So he played with it a little more and then stuck it back in his mouth and started gnawing on it.  Then he really got the hang of it.  By the time he had half of his portion left, he shoved the whole thing in his mouth (now that is him acting just like his daddy).  I was a little worried about him choking so I kept an extra close eye on him.  But I saw his little mouth moving to try to break it up so he could swallow.  Eventually he either broke it up on his own or it just dissolved in his mouth.  When it was all over there was pieces of the stuff everywhere.  The highchair tray was filthy and so were his hands face, so adorable though.  of course I caught it all on video and snapped a couple of pictures of him shoving the toast into his mouth.   Then I tried giving him some water in a sippy cup, but all he did was hold the cup and bang it against the high chair.  I guess I was a little over eager with trying new things today, so I'll wait a couple more days to give him the sippy cup again.  I just thought it would be nice for him to wash down his toast with a refreshing sippy cup of water:)  Oh well, I guess I can't try too many things at one time!

He is definitely crawling into everything now.  We have to watch him like a hawk when he's on the floor.  He loves to be in his daddy's office because there are so many fun things to see in there.  He was fascinated with the trash can today and if he sees a cord he heads straight toward it.  So I don't think he will be playing in daddy's office anymore.  He's pretty good playing on the floor by himself downstairs with his toys.  I put all his toys in a basket in the middle of the room.  He crawls to it, tips the basket over and pulls out all his toys and usually goes after this blue elephant that rattles.  It seems to be his favorite this week.  He's also learned to push on one of his cubes to make it quack like a duck.   He also likes to play with any shoes left on the floor.  Today he was fascinated with his daddy's stinky tennis shoe.  He was playing with the shoe string and when I picked him up, he held on tight to that shoe string so that the shoe came with us.  Crazy kid.  He did much better with his bottles today.  He didn't give either one of us a hard time with any of his bottles today....yippee!  I hope this is a trend that continues.  Alright, I'm tired and am going to try to get some sleep...so until next time, mommy and daddy love you!

Crawler

Jacob is in full swing with his crawling now.  He took his first official crawl on Wednesday evening (August 1).  Nani and Papa were over and we had just given Jacob a bath.  After the bath we were playing in his room and Papa was anxious to see him crawl.  He got his keys out and Jacob went straight for them on hands and knees.  It was so fun to watch him move.  He was a little slow to begin with, but now he's moving pretty quick on all fours.  Today we were playing in his room and he was crawling all over the place.   He loves to get into everything.  Fortunately his room is for him and baby safe, but I still have to watch him like a hawk.  There is a basket in his room filled with some random stuff and he loves to pull on it so that it goes on it's side so he can get whatever is in there.  It's amazing to see him accomplish his goals.  It's a little hard for me to watch him struggle to get what he wants, but I know that is the best thing for him.  He eventually gets it and I'm so proud of him and you can almost see a sense of accomplishment on his face.

This afternoon Nani and Papa came over to see Jacob.  Nani was playing him on the floor and was making him laugh soooo hard.  It was hysterical.  We've never seen him laugh that much before and for so long.  He was belly laughing...so funny.  At one point he laughed so hard that he almost tipped himself over.  We were all laughing.

This week Jacob started eating 2nd stage foods.  Those small containers were not satisfying him and he was eating two at lunch and dinner along with one in the morning with his cereal.  So now, he eats a stage 2 fruit with his cereal in the morning, one container at lunch (and sometimes a little of some fruit) and 2 containers of stage 1 foods for dinner (I still have some that we need to eat up!).  He is definitely a healthy eater when it comes to the solids.  He still does not like the puffs.  I actually got one in his mouth the other day and he did not like it.  The face he made was priceless and he just stuck his tongue out in hopes that it would fall out of his mouth (the food, not his tongue).  Unfortunately for him, the food stuck to his tongue and was just sitting there.  I tried getting it off his tongue, but the first couple of times I tried, he shook his head and I wasn't able to get it, but by the third time, I think he realized I was trying to help him.  so I guess he's not ready to chew things yet...in time, I'm sure.

I hesitate in writing this next part because it seems like anytime I talk or write about how well Jacob is sleeping at night, we have a bad night, but here we go anyway.  Jacob has been doing fairly well at night.  This past week 6 out of the 7 nights he slept from about 8pm to 4am without waking up (well, sometimes he cries when he can't find his pacifier, but I don't call that waking up, but a couple of nights he didn't even do that).  Thursday night he woke up at 12 and was hungry...we thought that was kind of strange, but he wanted some food so he got it.  I am no longer nursing him.  The last time he nursed was a week ago Friday (July 27).  It is kind of sad because I know my baby is getting so much older.  But I think it was time.  I definitely was not producing what he needed.  I've heard that for most women weaning a baby from nursing can be somewhat difficult and painful.  I did not experience that.  I didn't feel full or anything the first day I went without nursing him which again tells me I wasn't producing that much in the first place.  So that stage is now over, but I know there is so much more to experience with him.  I nursed him for about 7 months (6 months exclusively) which I think is okay.  I was never stuck on nursing him for a certain amount of time.  I just said when its time to be done, I'll be done and that's exactly what happened.  I think Jacob is okay without nursing.  He is okay with the bottle now.  He does struggle with it sometimes, but I think it's more because there is something more interesting going on at the time and would rather be doing that than being held to eat.  He can sometimes hold the bottle, but not when it's completely full.  And when he does hold the bottle it typically doesn't stay in his mouth very long...he thinks it's a toy.  Speaking of which his favorite toy is still any remote control he can get his hands on.  We've been giving him the remote control to the ceiling fan because it is small and he can't cause himself too much damage with it.  We have learned to take the battery out before he gets hold of it otherwise the fan is off, then on, then on high, then on low, then the light is on and then off.  I thought the fan was going to scream at us to make up our minds:)  So he loves the remote, without the battery.

Alright, it's time to get some other stuff done, so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
