Do we have a boy or what?

This morning Jacob was a little pain in the rear!  From the moment we woke up to the moment we went to stroller strides he was pretty much crying!  UGH...quite annoying.  He was a very good boy during our workout though (YEAH!).  He was almost asleep when we got home from our workout and playing at the park.  I got him out of his carseat and he made sure to grab his toy train.  I layed him in his crib and then took the train away.  He immediately sat up and pointed to his train.  I gave it back to him and he fell asleep with his train!  I must admit, it was really adorable.  He's never really fallen asleep with anything in his hand.  I wouldn't have minded him sleeping with it, except that it's VERY HARD!  I wonder why he's never really gotten attached to any stuffies?

Later in the afternoon we were outside playing in the front yard and the garage.  Jacob walked over to our bikes and said "bike!"  Then we were at Target getting some odds and ends and we passed by some bouncy balls and guess what he said?  Yep, "ball"  well it was more like "ba" but it was definitely his version of ball.  Okay so do we have a little boy or what...his only words thus far are "water," "truck," "bike" and "ball"  I mean really, can we add "book" in there too?  Please!?!?!  Every day when we read books I am constantly saying "book, book, book, now say book" but no, he hears us say "truck" and "bike" a few times and picks those words to say first.  I have a feeling homework time in our house is going to be a struggle!  I guess all my education courses are going to come in hand then!  I believe my master's thesis was on something about motivation and education...maybe God was already preparing me for Jacob :)

This evening at dinner we had some music playing in the background and Jacob and daddy were shaking their heads in unison to the beat of the song.  It was so cute that I had to get the video camera out and tape it.  I don't know how to add video on here otherwise you would see the video of it.

Jacob now has a total of 10 teeth.  ACtually, he has 9 1/2.  He broke his right top molar sometime last week and his top left molar is just about broken through now.  You can only see them when he is screaming his head off while laying down, which is quite often, so we get plenty of looks at them!  I am hoping this is the reason for all the crying and whining and waking up at night.  I can't wait until all his teeth are in...maybe then we will get to sleep through the night!  So I hope we get to sleep tonight...we'll see.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Fever

Last night Jacob was pretty squirmish all night.  He went to sleep with a fever and then when I felt him again at about 5am he had another fever!  Poor baby.  He's taken two doses of Tylenol today.  So we've just been hanging out today, Jacob has been sleeping on and off, mostly off though.  He's only slept a total of about 1 hour today...not good for him.  He did watch the UCLA basketball game this afternoon with mommy and daddy.  He also had his first official piece of pizza and really liked it...I couldn't cut the pieces up for him fast enough.

This evening for his bath we took out his bath seat and he was just sitting on the tub floor.  At first he didn't want to sit down in the water...actualy he didn't even want to stand in the water.  Daddy had to stand in the tun and finally Jacob made his way in and sat down and then I think he really liked it.  He was turning around and moving all over the place.  He was splashing like crazy too...mommy got a pretty good bath too!

We are hoping he gets a better nights sleep tonight and that his fever is finally gone.  He seems to have a little more energy this afternoon.  so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

15 month check up

This morning Jacob had his 15 month Doctor check up.  While we were waiting for the Dr. daddy and Jacob were playing with the trains on the table.  Jacob also ate a banana and managed to get lots of it on his face!  He's really good about putting food on his face and clothing so that people know what he's had to eat all day long.  As usual he got measured and weighed.  He is now 32 1/2 inches long (90th percentile) and 23 lbs 6 ounces (30th percentile).  Yes we have a tall skinny little boy.  Dr. Gladstein was not concerned with his weight, so I won't be either.  THe check up went well and the Dr. said that the rash behind his legs will go away eventually, but there is nothing we can do about it :(  That stinks.

Jacob developed a cough a couple of days ago.  The doctor said it's just a cold.  He was a little more mellow during the day and then around dinner time, he came and up his head on my lap and he was tired.  He felt warm and ended up having a temperature of 102.1 so he got some tylenol and went to sleep a little earlier than normal. I hope his fever breaks during the night and that he's better tomorrow...so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

"Truck"

Yesterday was Jacob's 15 month birthday!  I can't believe it.  He is really into trucks and trains right now.  He has a book that is full of trucks and trains and it's his favorite book.  He flips through the pages and points to them (never mind that there is actually a story to be read!).  So yesterday we were on our way to the store to buy some food.  We were stopped at a red light (a long one!) and there were LOTS of trucks passing by.  Jacob watched every one of them and pointed.  The whole time I was saying "truck" then all of a sudden, Jacob said "truck" okay, it wasn't as clear as "truck" more like "tuk" but it was definitely truck in his mind.  I was so excited for him.  Like I said before I was getting a little worried about his speech, but I think he's coming along okay now.  This morning he was playing trucks with daddy and he said "truck" to his daddy.  Bill was so excited about that one (I had forgotten to tell him about the word he said earlier).

Tomorrow we go see the doctor...mommy will have LOTS of questions for the doctor this visit.  I am really worried about his rash on the back of his leg.  It just doesn't seem to get better.  He also started coughing this morning out of nowhere!  So we'll have to ask about that too.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Jacob says "wa-wa"

So I've been a little concerned that Jacob really hasn't said any words and he is going to be 15 months old (tomorrow!!!).  Well today Daddy took us to get some Golden Spoon after dinner.  Jacob loves the water fountain at that food court and as soon as he saw it this evening he said "wa wa!"  I was so excited to hear him refer to something other than "ish"  that is his word for everything...he sees a fish and says "ish"...okay somewhat appropriate, but then he sees a plane in the sky and says "ish"...okay, not so appropriate...everything is "ish" until today...he recognizes water and refers to it as water too!  YIPPEE...

Another break through.  When I first gave cheese to Jacob he broke out in red spots all around his mouth, then when I introduced cows milk he broke out with the red spots all over his face :(  so I put him on soy milk because I didn't like the red spots on his face even though the doc said they were perfectly find.  Then I heard that soy milk has a lot of estrogen and I really didn't want him having an excess amount of estrogen.  So daddy suggested we slowly get him used to the cows milk by mixing the two milks together.  We started with about 2 tablespoons of cows milk in his sippy cup of soy milk...now we have graduated to 3/4 cows milk and 1/4 soy (actually more cow and less soy than that).  he is doing great with that.  Last Friday Nani and Papa took Jacob and I out for dinner while daddy with with his daddy watching Tennis.  anyway, I ordered a quesadilla for Jacob just to see what would happen.  He ate part of it and no break out!  YEAH!  Then today after having a 60 minute scream fest he saw me eating some string cheese and wanted some.  I gave him a little bit, thinking he wasn't going to like it.  He put the small piece in his mouth, chewed once, then took it out of his mouth and handed it to me while reaching for my BIG piece with his other hand.  I gave him my big piece and took the small chewed up piece.  He ended up eating the WHOLE THING!!  And the best part...no break out.  Then he saw some yogurt on the table (from when I tried giving him some during his cry fest).  I opened up a new one and let him taste it.  When I first let him try yogurt months ago, he HATED it.  I've tried a few times since then with no luck...but today was totally different...he ate the whole cup of yogurt (blueberry flavor) and still wanted more.  And guess what...no red spots!  Yeah! I think he is finally over the reaction to dairy products.  this is so exciting to me.  now I just have to figure out what is causing the rash on the the back of his knee and all will be good with him.  he has a doctor's appointment on Thursday so I'll make sure to ask the doctor what is going on!

Tomorrow is his 15 month birthday!  I can't believe how fast he is growing, my little monkey.  So until our next update...mommy and daddy love you!

Happy Easter 2008

This morning Jacob woke up fairly early...I think he knew today was a special day.  After we all got ready and dressed...Jacob wore some khaki colored shorts and a green and white button up shirt.  He looked really cute in his Easter outfit...nothing dorky, but he looked dressed up for Jacob :)  Once we were ready we all went downstairs and Jacob saw his Easter basket full of fun stuff.  He got a Thomas the Train station (with the Thomas train) and two other train friends, Mighty Mac and Sir Handel.  He also got a Thomas DVD, a shirt that says "My parents are exhausted" and a few eggs with Sesame Street characters in them.  We had a quick bite to eat and then we dropped off Jacob at Nani and Papa's while Mommy and Daddy went to church.  After church Jacob was already up from his nap.  He played in the back yard the whole afternoon and pretty much only had strawberries for lunch!  He got a basketball hoop from the Easter Bunny that visited Nani and Papa's house.  He and daddy were playing basketball for a while and having lots of fun.

Yesterday we went to the city of Chino Hills' Egg-stravaganza.  Basically it was an Easter Egg "hunt".  We got there early and Grandpa Bill joined us, which was really fun.  IT was super hot outside so we were all hot waiting for the "hunt" to begin.  there were lots of little kids there.  Jacob managed to find about 4 eggs.  He had a good time picking up the eggs and putting them into his basket. There was a DJ there and of course evertime we walked by the DJ, Jacob started to dance.  People walking by all commented on the cute little boy dancing.  Daddy requested the Wiggles song and Jacob loved it..he was swinging his arms all over the place and bouncing up and down.  He really was adorable.

One of his top molars is coming in.  He has been a nightmare at night lately...he's waking up about every two hours.  Sometimes he puts himself back to sleep, but there are those times when one of us has to get up to calm him down.  We gave him tylenol Friday night, but that didn't seem to help him.  If he cries again tonight I think we are finally going to try the orajel.  He even seems to be a bit moody during the day as well.  I really hope all his teeth come in soon, for all of our sakes!

So we all had a wonderful Easter Sunday and are so thankful that our Savior, Jesus Christ died and rose again to save us and give us everlasting life!  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

First Easter Egg Hunt

Daddy's home! Jacob and I had a couple of days to ourselves and we had a good time. Wednesday after Stroller Strides we had a little Easter party and egg hunt. Jacob walked right past the first egg and didn't even notice it. I had to walk him to the next egg and tell him to pick it up. After a couple of eggs like that, he was getting the hang of it. He got a total of 6 eggs and was pretty happy about it. He was so cute picking up the eggs.

Jacob is starting to get really attached to his daddy. He loves it when his daddy chases him around the island in the kitchen and walks him to the mailbox everyday to get the mail. They usually end up taking a short walk up the block. They are so cute walking together!

Jake loves to play outside, especially in the grass in the front yard. He likes to go exploring in the dirt...he loves the dirt.

He has a small rash in the back of his right knee. I am going to have to bring it to his dr.'s attention next week at his appointment. I've been putting some cream on it a few times a day and it seems to be getting better...but we'll check with the doctor just to be sure.

alright...until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

A day with Vets and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

Last Friday morning Jacob and I went to my old work to check out King High Remembers.  It's a program for Juniors at the school.  We invited WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf War Veterans to the school and the kids interview them about their experiences in war.  It tends to be an emotional experience for many involved.  Anyway, I didn't want to miss it (since I missed last year because Jacob was still a little too young to go to the school then).  So we went, Jacob was dressed in his camoflauge shirt and the vets loved it.  Many of them commented on his attire with a smile.  I was able to see many of my former collegues and it was a great time.

Saturday morning Bill, Jacob and I went to the city's Breakfast with the Easter Bunny.  Jacob chowed down on his pancake and had one bite of the sausage...that's all we would let him have of that yucky stuff.  Then the Easter Bunny came hopping in.  Once again, Jacob loved waving at the Easter Bunny, but did not like it when I put him on the bunny's lap.  The picture we got was of him with his hands reaching out to us and a scream on his face.  I must admit, it was funny to watch.  Jacob had fun running around the place with his friend Christian.  Then we went out to where they have the horse shows.  Jacob loved running around in the wet muddy grass.  His shoes were FILTHY when he was done.  I wouldn't even let him in the car with those shoes on.  Daddy had to wash them when we got home.

We did have a small scare while at the breakfast.  I thought Bill was watching Jacob and Bill thought I was watching him.  Instead I was busy trying to steal the centerpiece balloon boquet from someone elses table...because I like the balloon on that table better than the one on our table.  Anyway, I looked toward Bill and didn't see Jacob near him.  I asked where Jacob was and Bill said I don't know I thought he was with you...in an instant, we each ran in a different direction in search of our run away child.  Bill found him OUTSIDE running around in the grass.  That was a scary moment and taught us a lesson!

So Jacob did so much running around that morning that he fell asleep on the way home...a little early for his normal nap time.  Later that afternoon we went to have dinner at Rober and Maggie's house.  Jacob had a good time playing with John Paul.  They were playing with trains the whole time!

Jacob didn't sleep very well last night.  He kept waking up for a couple of minutes and then fell back to sleep.  Very restless!  At 5:30 he woke up again so I brought him in bed with me.  Bill was already of bed getting ready to go catch a plane to go to a conference in San Jose.  The little bugger (Jacob) didn't wake up until 8:00!  I couldn't believe it.  It was nice to be able to sleep in with him.  I think that is the latest he's slept in in a LONG TIME.  Lately he's been waking up at 6:00am.  I took him to the park in the morning and Papa came down to meet us.  We were pushing him in the swing for over 30 MINUTES!!!  I was talking to my dad adn then looked over at Jacob in the swing and he was nodding off.  YEP....he fell asleep in the swing.  It was so cute.  I left him there for a little bit, still swinging, but then stopped the swing to get him out.  he woke up and started crying when he realized I was taking him out of the swing.  He wanted to stay in!  That boy loves to swing!  Since he got a little cat nap in, he did't want to take his normal nap, so he didn't fall asleep until 2:45!  UGH...I hope he gets back on his regular schedule tomorrow.

Alright, time to go.  Tomorrow Bill leaves for a business trip to Seattle and he will be back on Wednesday night...so it's just me and the little guy for the next couple of days.  I'm sure everything will go well!
so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

A visit with the Easter Bunny

This morning Jacob and I went to the Brea mall to visit the Easter Bunny.  We got there a little early and the Easter Bunny wasn't home yet :(  So Jacob and I walked around the mall for a few minutes and returned some clothes.  On our way to the store we saw the Easter Bunny walking to his house.  Jacob waved to him from the stroller and we said we would see him later.  When we arrived at the Easter Bunny's house, Jacob walked up to him and waved.  I thought, oh great, this is going to be easy.  Nope.  I picked Jacob up to place him on the bunny's lap.  Well, I've never felt Jacob squeeze my arm so tight.  It's a good thing I cut his fingernails last night otherwise I might have had nail marks in my skin.  He DID NOT want to sit with the bunny.  So I put him down and he walked around the house a little bit, then walked back to the bunny and waved again.  He showed the Easter Bunny his car book and I thought this is good now, he's warming up to the bunny.  so I picked him up again and walked toward teh bunny.  Jacob started crying again but I just placed him on the bunny's lap and the lady took three pictures.  Of course Jacob was crying, but the pictures weren't too bad.  I'll have to post the picture later (I don't know how to scan things in).  Once I got him off the bunny's lap he was fine.  He waved bye-bye to the Easter Bunny and everything.  He just did not want to sit on his lap.  Too funny.  This weekend we are having breakfast with the Easter Bunny, so we'll see how he does then.

This past weekend Jacob spent the night at Nani and Papa's.  I heard they went to the park a couple of times and to Chuck E. Cheese.  Boy is he a lucky guy.  We went to pick him up on Sunday and had dinner with Nani and Papa to celebrate Papa's birthday.  We were also able to visit with Uncle RJ and Auntie Sonnia and Grandnina.  Jacob loves to run around their house and play with the dogs.  He loves Harley and now the new addition, Abby (a tiny chiuaua my mom got for her birthday).

I've been sick the last couple of days so Jacob has not been able to go to the park.  :(  On Tuesday I wasn't up to running after Jacob at the park so we went to story time at the library.  Jacob really liked it.  He listened to the songs and stories and then had fun pulling books off the shelves.  Yesterday, daddy took the day off so I could rest during the day.  In the afternoon he dropped Jacob off with Papa so he could get some stuff done.  Jacob was running around crazy with Papa (so I hear).

So we will update after Breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

More fun stuff with Jacob

Since our last post Jacob has gone back to church once.  The weekend after his first adventure he had a few sniffles and it was raining, so we decided to keep him in.  Last week he loved it again.  It's really nice for us to, because now I an actually pay attention to the message!

Jacob has been doing a lot of falling lately.  He is really starting to run, but leads with his shoulders so when he runs he tends to fall, and it's usually when we are outside on concrete or something hard.  So last week on the way to his playroom at church, he fell and bonked his forehead.  he didn't cry too much, but after church we noticed a nice red spot.  Then on Monday he was playing in the living room tripped over himself (or probably one of his many toys in there) and skidded onto the area rug.  He damaged the SAME SPOT and added a nice rug burn.  Then later that same day he went with daddy to get the mail.  On the way to the mailbox, he got too excited and fell AGAIN!  yep, the SAME SPOT so now he has a nice bruise in the middle of his forehead.  He looks like he went to an Ash Wednesday service and got ashes put on his forehead.  Golly gee...I don't know what we are going to do with him.  Bill suggested making him wear a helmet!  ha, could you imagine that!  I guess there is not much we can do, but to try as best we can to prevent the falls, like that is really possible.

Earlier this week at the park he was sharing one of his toys with another child and instead of giving him the Thomas the train, he THREW the train at the kid and hit him in the head.  Nice one Jacob.  He was trying to be nice and share and he ended up hurting the kid!  I have to help him understand the difference between give and throw.  Lately, he throws everything (especially the food off his high chair tray).

We started to add regular cow's milk to his soy milk.  I really would rather him drink cows milk instead of the soy milk.  Actually I realized that the soy milk has a lot of estrogen in it.  now I'm not thinking that he's going to be feminine if he drinks the soy, but I really don't want to experiment with that to find out!  So we started with about a tablespoon of cows milk in his sippy.  We are now at about half and half.  He hasn't had too bad of a reaction to the milk so we are hoping that we are getting him used to the cows milk slowly and that the red spots don't come back!

Last weekend we went to Disneyland twice.  Daddy took Friday off so we went.  Jacob had lots of fun with his daddy.  We had not been to Disneyland as a family in a long time.  Daddy and Jacob went in the petting zoo and Jacob had lots of fun petting the goats.  He LOVED it.  He went from goat to goat petting them.  I thought he would be a little scared, but nope, he had a great time.  Daddy made sure to wash his hands well after that.  Then on Saturday we met Christian and his parents there.  The boys had a blast together.  They are so fun to watch.

Another took broke through this last week.  It's the tooth just to the right of his front tooth.  I think one of his molars is about to come in because his runny nose is back and his little gums are black and blue in the molar area.  Poor baby (and poor us!).

Tuesday we went to visit Jen and Matt in San Diego.  the boys had not seen each other in a long time.  They did okay with eachother and Matt was really nice about sharing his toys with Jacob.  I was hoping to put Jacob down for a nap there, but that did not happen, but he did sleep almost all the way home.

uh oh, the little one is waking up from his nap so I'll have to update more later
