18 month check up
Jacob had his 18 month check up this morning. Here are his stats. weight: 24lbs 13oz (somewhere in the 20th percentile). Length 34 1/4 inches (somewhere in the 95th percentile). So we still have a long skinny child! He did okay during his appointment. When Dr. Kotures was asking me about his developmental progress, Jacob was climbing all over me and the chair I was sitting in. I guess he didn't need to ask me about his climbing abilities. However, when it came time to check him out, Jacob was a crying mess. I was afraid he was going to kick the Dr. so I spent most of that time holding down his legs. He also had to get three shots today. He definitely did not like that. The nurse really struggled to hold down his legs. I think she had her entire body weight on him to hold him down. He is super human strong when he is upset. Maybe we should call him "The Hulk" His checkup went well. He is in good health and on target developmentally. I was a little concerned about his language development, but the Dr. assured me he is on target.
After his appointment we met Christian and Malaya at California Adventure. We all went on the new ride, Toy Story Mania (or whatever it's called). Jacob did okay on the ride, but about half way through, he snuggled a little closer to me. He enjoyed his ride on the carousel, riding on the sea otter. His most favorite part was running around with Malaya in the animation place. It was nice and cool in there and he liked running around to the music and trying to catch the spotlights on the ground. He fell asleep during lunch so he didn't eat much today :( When we got home he started playing with his train set. He loves that thing, but also gets so frustrated with it. If the car gets stuck he gets upset. He was actually on the ground for 15 minutes crying his head off. When I tried consoling him he either pulled out my hair (yes, he had quite a few pieces of my hair in his hand when he pulled away) or tried biting me. So he was back on the ground. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and since it was about 5:30, I went to get daddy for reinforcement. The little stinker stopped crying right away with daddy!
We have new neighbors a few houses away and we finally met them tonight. They have three young children, 9, 5 and 3. Jacob played with all of them with no problems. I think he had a good time playing while we were talking to their parents. He cried when we told him it was time to go home.
New things he is doing...when something doesn't go well, he say's "oh no." It sounds really cute. He is also trying to jump but he can't get both feet off the ground at the same time so he hops from one foot to the other. Tonight when I was brushing his teeth, I noticed his two top canines peeking through. Could this be the reason for all the crabbiness? About a week and a half ago I bought a preschoolers devotional book. We have been reading from it most nights (we missed a couple because we got home late and he was already asleep when we got home). After we read from it, we tell him we are going to pray. We taught him to put his hands together and then either Bill or I will say a prayer for him. He is so adorable with his hands folded. We pray before we eat, but we've never had him hold his hands together, because we are usually holding his hands when we pray for dinner. So it's something new for him. He has been sleeping in a little later each morning. He used to wake up every morning at 6am, but lately it's been more like 7 and a couple of times he's woken up after 8! He has also been going to bed later at around 8 or 8:30 so this explains his late wake up time. I am definitely not complaining about the later wake up time. I either get to sleep in or can get a few things done before he wakes up. He loves pointing out parts of his body, but his most favorite right now is his tongue. He LOVES showing us his tongue. He is also getting better at closing his mouth when he gives us kisses. He will even add the "MOWA" after his gives me a kiss. Daddy has also taught him to "pound it" when he gives his fist to another gut to "pound" He is so funny because instead of his hand facing down in the fist, it's facing up, so it's an upside down "pound."
I know he is doing more fun stuff. But I'm tired and can't think of anything else right now, so when I do I will write more. So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Our city sponsors "Concerts in the Park" each summer. I've been meaning to go to them since they started years ago, but just never got around to it. Last night we decided to take Jacob. We met some of his friends and their parents there. Christian, Brixie Lee, Malaya, and Jacob all had a great time eating dinner at the park and listening and dancing to some good 80's music. The parents had a good time too! We went to El Pollo Loco, grabbed some dinner and took it to the park to eat on our blanket. It really was a lot of fun and we're hoping to do it each Wednesday night until the summer ends.
with his new train. He was seriously playing with it for over an hour and not a peep from him. I actually got to get a lot of stuff done!
Yesterday Jacob had his first official Little Gym class. We decided to enroll in Little Gym classes for the summer instead of swim classes. It's been so hot outside and after our morning workout with Stroller Strides, being in the sun for another 45 minutes was not fun. He likes his swimming lessons, but I think he will enjoy the Little Gym a lot more. We had quite a busy day though. We started the morning at 8:30 for Stroller Strides. It was a bit cooler than it has been, which was nice for mommy. Jacob definitely woke up on the wrong side of the crib. He was a little stinker when we were home getting ready to go. He didn't even eat all of his breakfast (pancakes...he usually loves them). So we got in the car and drove to the park. He was whining almost the whole time we were there. Then the final straw...while I was on the ground doing our ab work, he threw a car at me and hit me on my forehead...oh, I was not a happy mommy at that moment. So then we were off to swim classes at 10:30. He was crying a little in the car on the way there. I was debating on whether or not to even go to swim class, but since this is our last week, I didn't want to cheat ourselves of the good money we spent on the classes. So we got there and he was still crabby. Everything was "NO" He didn't even want to ride on the big fish that he usually loves riding on. When Miss Tracey asked if he wanted to go on the fish, he shook his head and said "no." Even Miss Tracey was surprised about that one. So after being in the pool for 30 minutes and having a tough time with it, we finally got out and made our way home. He fell asleep in the car and slept for 3 hours when we got home. I think the little stinker was tired!
He was so excited he even bumped into the wall and bounced off it. He sat there for a few seconds not knowing what happened, but then he saw the bubbles and forgot about apparently hurting himself.
Sonnia, and her parents also joined us. We had a great time and Jacob got to play in his pool while daddy was bbq-ing the meat. Daddy and Jacob go to spend lots of time together and had a good day.
ed and not used to the water. He cried about 70% of the time we were in the pool and I actually took him out of the water about 5 minutes early. I figured he needed a day to adjust to being in the pool again. It's been a LONG time since he's been in a pool. He must have been REALLY tired because he took a 3 hour and 15 minute nap when we got home! I couldn't believe it! When we got back in the pool on Thursday he did MUCH better and was smiling the whole time. He really enjoyed jumping in the water (of course I caught him and he didn't get his face wet...something he does not like too much right now). Daddy joined us (but not in the water). He was taking lots of pictures and video of Jacob in the water.
Friday night we met up the the Kollen family at Irvine Spectrum. Jacob and Luke ran around the bookstore after dinner...they were too cute. Jacob loves to play in bookstores. He loves finding books with Elmo, Mickey Mouse and Thomas the Train! He was making me laugh watching him go from one part of the store to the other...you would have thought he was in a playground, not in a bookstore.
I really think he's had another growth spurt. We were outside playing basketball the other day and I was able to raise the basket a little and he was able to "dunk" the ball! When we first received the basketball hoop we had to tilt the hoop down just a little in order for him to make the shot. Well now it's at it's normal height (well, the lowest height) and he does just fine. He loves playing basketball! Thursday night the Lakers played and he and his daddy put on their Lakers jerseys and went outside to shoot some hoops before the game started. They were so adorable pretending they were playing in the NBA championship game.
