Catching Up (again)

It's been almost 2 weeks since we last posted.  I guess I was a little busy preparing for Auntie Vanessa's baby shower (which was a SUCCESS!) and then we got sick :(

last Saturday was Auntie Vanessa's baby shower.  Daddy had Jacob all day long and from what I heard, the morning started out rough, but they ended up having a great time together.  Sunday we went to the park in the morning and then after Jacob's nap we went to the LA County Fair.  Jacob had a great time in the petting zoo and had to run away from the llama and goat that were trying to steal the food!  He also enjoyed the kids hall where he saw lots of bugs and played with trains and stuff.  Jacob slipped and slided in the snow they had.  The snow was pretty icy and difficult to walk on, but not for Jacob.  I especially had a hard time keeping up with him on the snow.  Daddy took Jacob on a sled and he loved it.  They looked like they had so much fun that mommy had to take Jacob for a run too!

Jacob woke up on Monday with a bit of a temperature and a runny nose, so we stayed in on Monday and Tuesday just to make sure he was okay.  He was pretty bored at home.  I could tell he just wanted to get outside and run around.  Wednesday he seemed to be doing a lot better, but mommy was the one not feeling well.  We went to Stroller Strides anyway so Jacob could see his friends and play.  He had a great time and was glad to be out in the open again.

Thursday night we babysat Jacob's friend, Malaya, while her mommy and daddy went out to dinner for their anniversary.  Jacob was so excited to have his girlfriend spend time with him at his house.  They were so cute playing together.  It was different having a little girl in the house.  She was playing with Jacob's train station and calling it a house...oh the difference between boys and girls.  The two of them were so excited to be playing with eachother that they didn't want to eat dinner.  Jacob is really gentle with her...I guess he knows that she's a girl and needs to be more gentle with her.  He didn't try to hit her and didn't even try to take away any of the toys she's playing with.  I don't think I've ever seen him like that!

Jacob's vocabulary has been expanding like crazy in the last month.  He knows a lot of his colors now, blue, red, green, orange, purple, and yellow.  He still gets a little mixed up when you ask him what color something is, but sometimes he gets it right...lucky guess, I think.  He is also learning his alphabet more.  He will at least repeat almost all of the letters, but still doesn't completely recognize them.  The other day he said, "I see airplane" when in fact, he saw an airplane.  I was so proud of my little monkey.  We were at the library the other day and there was a picture of a walrus on the wall and all of a sudden he pointed to the walrus and said "walrus"!  WHAT?!?!  I don't remember teaching him walrus.  It was so cute.  He has also started to say his own name, it doesn't completely sound like Jacob, but it's close enough.  He also says a few of his friends names, Malaya, Christian, Cooper and Liam.  His favorite cartoon is Elmo's World and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Bill taught him all the characters name on the Mickey Mouse show, so at the beginning of the show when they introduce the characters, he names every one of them, Donald Duck, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie and Mickey Mouse.  He gets so excited about doing that too.  If daddy is watching with him, he will rewind that part and let him do it again.  The two of them together are so funny.   He still LOVES his motorcycle and train and all of his cars.  He is such a boy.

so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Kindermusik

Last night Jacob had his first Kindermusik class with Ms. Annette.  He will be going for the next 17 weeks with his daddy on Monday nights.  It's something the boys are going to do together.  Of course, I will go every once in a while.  So we all went last night and Jacob had a BLAST!!!  Of course he was running around the whole time, but he did sit down a couple of times and did what Ms. Annette was doing.  After class we went to Golden Spoon and Jacob shared some vanilla yogurt with me and then ran around in the grass area for a while.

We got back in the swing of things yesterday too.  Since being on vacation we've been busy and not in our normal routine, but yesterday was a great normal day.  This weekend we were really busy with LOTS of parties.

We started Friday with a birthday party for Wyatt who turned 4.  We went to a park in Dana Point.  Jacob slept the whole way there and when we got there he was ready to go.  He played in the jungle gym for a long time and then the train which was actually little cars came around.  Jacob and I took a few spins around the neighborhood.  He had a great time on the cars.  He was also very excited when it came to cake time.  He sat like a good little boy on the picnic bench and waited for everyone to sing happy birthday to Wyatt.

Saturday morning I had to wake up the boys so we could get ready to go to Matt's 2nd birthday party.  It was Sesame Street theme and Jacob had fun throwing the ball to a picture of Elmo.  He also kept giving Elmo high fives and tried kissing him too!  He had fun running around with Cooper and was pooped out at the end of the party and slept the entire way home. Later that evening Grandma and Grandpa and Nani and Papa came over to hang out with us.  Jacob was excited to have both sets of Grandparents at our house.  Then Auntie Di and Uncle Jeff came over to play poker.  Jacob wanted to play with us, so I let him mess with my chips and boy, did he have a good time :)

Sunday we went to baby Donovan's baptism.  Again he had a good time playing with Cooper.  Those two do not see eachother that often, but when they do, they have a great time together.  He did not take a nap on Sunday, but he fell asleep early that night and had a good night's sleep.

We are now off to Stroller Strides and then to Little Gym.  Then we have lots of errands to do for Auntie Vanessa's baby shower this weekend.  Another busy day for us, so we're off.

So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Yosemite September 2008

Jacob took his second annual trip to Yosemite on September 3rd.  We spent the night at Nani and Papas and then left the house at 4am on Wednesday morning.  Jacob fell back asleep after an hour on the road and slept for a good portion of the trip.  We watched lots of Elmo videos on the way to Yosemite.  He also entertained us with his version of a chicken pawking (is that how you spell that?).  When we got to camp, Jacob was already in heaven.  He helped the boys set up camp, showing them how the rods worked while setting up the tent.  After some lunch we went and sat by the river and Jacob watched his daddy, Papa, Uncle RJ and cousin Corty dunk themselves in the river.  Jacob stood on shore throwing rocks in the water.  He also had fun riding on his motorcycle around our campsite.  That night we had a bear in the campsite two away from us.  Papa, uncle and daddy all got up to try to shoo the bear away, but the bear got into the bear bin and was feasting on the people's food and was not about to be shoo'd away.  So daddy got a picture of the bear with Uncle RJ.  Jacob slept through all the noise.

Thursday morning Jacob had his breakfast of champions, cheerios and egg out in the open sky!  He loved it!  Then we took a bike ride over to Yosemite village where Jacob got to run around the Indian Village.  He had a blast.  He saw an indian making arrowheads and got to play some games that Indian children play.  We tried riding over to Yosemite Falls (where there was no more water) but Jacob fell asleep on the way there so we biked it back to the campsite but when I got him out of the trailer he woke up so we sat by the river and watched Jacob throw more rocks.  He LOVED throwing rocks in the river.  He found the biggest ones he could hold and threw them in.  Daddy ended up filling his bucket full of rocks and that lasted him a LONG time.

Each night daddy and mommy would stroll Jacob around the campground until he fell asleep.  Some nights he fell asleep on the first loop, other nights it took him 5 times around.  Eventually he fell asleep and was a pretty good boy at nights.  It was nothing like last years nights.

Friday we went to the infamous Water Hole, a family spot that Jacob's great grandpa found YEARS ago and our family has been going to ever since.  Papa used to go there when he was a kid.  So it's tradition that we ALWAYS have to go there.  Jacob loved it there too.  He played in the water with Nani, cruised in the raft for a little while and watched the boys play horseshoes.  He also took a 4 hour nap there!  yep, the kid was tired from all the fun and loved sleeping outside on his towel.  He woke up and had some hamburger...the first time he's really eaten hambuger and he loved it with lots of ketchup.

Saturday we just hung out again.  AFter a short nap we took Jacob to get some ice cream.  Mommy shared her cone with Jacob and then he thought it was his and would NOT share with mommy.  he loves his ice cream!  It was so funny when I asked if I could have some ice cream he said "no" and then moved his cone as far away from me as he could get it.  Then daddy asked if he could have a lick and he gave his cone to daddy.  Little stinker, I guess at that moment he like daddy more than mommy.

Sunday, we biked over to Happy Isles. Jacob ran around the nature center for a while and listened to all the sounds the different animals make.  I think his favorite was the bob cat.  Then we took a short walk and Jacob got to walk around the big rocks in the river.  We were holding on to him the whole time, but he LOVED IT!

Monday we went back to the Water Hole and had a great time again.  This time he only naped for 3 hours.  He knows how to relax at the water hole.  Tuesday we biked around the valley again and got another ice cream, this time he shared daddy's ice cream.  Wednesday we woke up, took down the camp and drove home.

Needless to say we all had a great time.  Jacob was such a good boy there, not one meltdown.  He was so happy to be outside all the time, throwing rocks, playing with his ball, riding his motorcycle and digging in the dirt.  He did get DIRTY and was pretty much dirty the entire week, even after taking a bath everyday.  But oh well, that's what happens when you are camping.  I think his favorite part of the week was waking up to see the trash truck every morning.  He would seriously wake up hearing the trash truck across the campground, hurry to put his shoes on and go outside to see the trash truck dump the dumpster right by our campsite.  It was so cute.  He also LOVED being with his Nani and Papa.  He followed around his Nani the entire week.  Most of the time he didn't want to be around him mommy and daddy, just his Nani and Papa.

Jacob also learned several new words during our week in Yosemite.  He perfected saying "nani" and "papa" he learned "uncle," "auntie," "rocks," "bear," "squirrel," "bread."  He learned who everyone was to.  At mealtimes we would go around the table pointing to everyone and he would say who they were.  It was so cute.  He is growing up so fast.   He was so spoiled while camping.  He got lots of desserts, especially COOKIES and got to snack a whole lot.  He did have a slight poo-poo problem, but he got over it halfway during the week.

We had a wonderful time in our favorite place, Yosemite.  I was a little nervous about Jacob running around with all the rocks and him getting hurt, but he did a good job watching out where he was walking and running and was a good listener too.  One time he was walking around the campsite and tripped on a rock.  He got up dusted himself off and then took another couple of steps only trip on another rock, this time he groaned as if to say "dumb rock" and got up in frustration and walked off.  it was the funniest thing to see.  He didn't cry but was mad that he fell twice in a row.  Anyway, we had such an enjoyable week with our family.  We can't wait to do it again next year.  So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Yesterday was daddy's birthday.  We got home from Yosemite Wednesday night so we kind of just kicked around the house.  Jacob and I took Daddy to Mimi's for breakfast.  Then in the afternoon while Jacob was sleeping daddy went to get his birthday present.  He bought a MOTORCYCLE!!!!   He doesn't have it yet because they have to get it from another store and then paint it, so we are expecting that he will get it in the next couple of weeks.  He was so excited when he got home and showed Jacob his new motorcycle jacket.  I don't think the smile came off his face until he went to sleep.  Jacob told daddy that we were going to take him to dinner and he could pick anywhere he wanted to go.  So where did he choose?  DENNY'S!  Yep, Denny's, why? Because he THOUGHT they give you a free meal on your birthday.  So we get there and he tells the waiter, "it's my birthday"  the waiter looks at him like, 'SO?"  It was the funniest scene.  Apparently at the Denny's by our house they don't give free meals on your birthday.  So we went there for NO REASON!!!!  Silly daddy!

We came home and relaxed in our room and then Jacob went to sleep and it was a good birthday for daddy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!!!  WE LOVE YOU!!!

We will write about our trip to Yosemite tonight!
