Braden's 2 month check up

Posted By: Melissa 0 Comments

On Friday Braden turned 2 months old.  I still can't believe he's already been in this world for 2 months!  Our little guy is a big boy!  He had his 2 month check up today.  He weighed in at 14 pounds and is 24 inches long.  He is in the 90th percentil for his height and the 95th for his weight.  I guess we can safely say he's a chunker :)  Jacob and I were telling him he is a chunky baby while we were in the room waiting for the doctor to come in.  He's bigger than his big brother was at this point, so we'll see how he continues to grow.  I'm sure at some point they will even out.  Dr. Koutures says he's growing great and is a healthy boy.  He checked him from head to toe and everything looks great.  Poor little guy had 3 shots today and had to swallow one vaccine.  He was a good boy (like his big brother) and drank all the vaccine and of course he cried when he got his shots, but mommy picked him up right away and he shortly calmed down.  He should have been hungry after he got his shots, but instead he fell asleep, which allowed us to go straight home.

Last week I noticed that there was white stuff on his tongue that wouldn't come off and after a call to the doctor we discovered that he has Thrush.  He is currently on some medication and it seems to be clearing up, unfortunately it can take up to two weeks to clear up.  he doesn't like the taste of the medicine and cries everytime I give him the medicine, but it needs to be done.  He is currently eating 5 ounces of formula at each feeding.  During the day he eats approximately every 3 hours.  Some nights he will stretch out his feeding to 5 or even 6 hours and then he will go 4 hours between his early early morning feeding and his early morning feeding.  It seems as though no matter what time we feed him last at night he wakes up at about 1 or 2 for a feeding and then again between 4 and 5 in the morning.  He's up a lot during the day and LOVES to be talked to and sung to (expecially by Jacob).  He smiles and coos at us.  I LOVE his smile, even if it's 2 in the morning.

Now for Jacob...he's a silly little boy.  For the last few months he's been dancing around the house singing "sha shake your peanut" We had no idea where he got this saying from and why he decided to dance around to it.  At first I thought he got it from Bill teaching him how to use the potty standing up.  I thought he was saying "shake your penis" but it just sounded like peanut, but I was wrong.  The other morning Jacob was in his bathroom going potty and I was in there helping him and I heard "Shake shake shake your peanut" coming from my room.  I went into the room and saw Mickey Mouse singing that song!  AAAHHHH, that's where he got it from.  The characters on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse were shaking their bodies to the tune "shake shake shake your peanut, baby elephant come down that tree"  I was laughing so hard when I finally realized where he the saying.  So now both Jacob and I will walk around the house singing "shake shake shake your peanut" and Braden smiles when he hears oen of us singing that song to him.

Jacob is finally consistently going poo poo in the potty.  He still doesn't quite make it to the bathroom before something STARTS to come out, but at least we aren't having big poops in his underwear everytime.  He gets excited when he hears his poop plop down into the potty.  I'm proud of him and he will even tell me he has to go poopoo when he is playing at the park.  I'm thinking by his birthday in a month, he will be completely potty trained.

okay, that's all for now, so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

getting bigger

We decided to change Braden's formula.  He was spitting up A LOT and had a lot of gas.  So off we went to Babies R Us to check out the different kinds of formula.  Last Friday we switched him to the powder form of Similac's Sensitive formula, it's for gassiness and fussiness.  He's not really fussy, but he is gassy (and stinky too :)) Strangly, when I first mixed up the formula it created a TON of bubbles (not so good for gassy babies).  It got to be a pain to mix the formula in one bottle and then change it into another bottle, way too much work for his lazy mama, so on Tuesday I switched him over to the ready made formula (since we were pretty much done with the can of powdered formula.  He is seeming to do better with it, the spit up has pretty much stopped, except when we are out and about...he seems to only spit up when Jacob is at My Gym, not so nice when he spits up all over my clothes! YUCK!

Braden has also moved up in his clothing size.  We are now starting to put him in 3-6 month clothes!  YIKES! My baby is getting so big.  He is still able to fit into some of his 0-3 month clothes, but they are getting tight.  He's doing better at night too.  Last night he had a bottle at 5:30 and pretty much fell asleep right after that and didn't wake up until 1am...WOW that is 7 hours, now we just have to get that last bottle to be a little later at night so that he is pretty much sleeping through the night, because after the 1 am feeding he is waking up somewhere between 4:30 and 5:30am.

Braden continues to be such a good boy, even though I struggle some nights with him waking up in the middle of the night, I really shouldn't be complaining because he is such a GOOD BOY!  He really only cries when he's hungry and now that he's awake a lot more during the day he smiles ALL THE TIME!  I love to see his little smile and hearing his coos.  He will be 2 months old tomorrow already, I can't believe how fast time flies, yet it also seems like he's been here forever!

Yesterday, Nov. 18th the building of our pool started!  Jacob was SO EXCITED to see the Bobcat in our backyard tearing everything up...it's kind of sad to see our ENTIRE back yard just DIRT!  Jacob sat in front of the sliding glass door in the morning before Stroller Strides STARING at the Bobcat. While we were at the park all he kept asking was when we were going home to see what the Bobcat was doing in our backyard...it's so cute to see him mesmerized by the happenings in our backyard.  When we got back home he was back in front of the sliding glass door watching the Bobcat do it's work.  He kept asking what the bobcat was doing and when we told him it was building a pool he asked if it was going to be a dinosaur pool (this past summer we got him a small blowup pool that had a dinosaur on it).  So cute and innocent.  I told him it was going to be a bigger pool than that and he got really excited.

At Stroller Strides yesterday we created a Thanksgiving apron for mommy and Nani.  The boys both made turkeys out of their handprints. I was a little reluctant to have Braden make a handprint, but I'm so glad I decided to do it, it came out GREAT!!!  I can't wait to give the apron to Nani, she's going to love it.  The plan is to put their handprints on it each year until the apron is full (or until Jacob says enough already mom!)

okay, got to get back to the boys...so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Big Boy

Our little Braden is getting so big already, it makes me sad.  On Sunday we graduated from size 1 diapers to size 2s.  He's only 7 weeks old and already wearing a size 2.  I wish he was still in the tiny  newborn size, they are so cute and that's when he was so little.  He's still little, but he's a big boy.  These size two diapers no longer have the line to indicate if the diaper is wet.  So now we have to go based on the feel of the diaper.  Gee, why don't they make them all like that, it is such a nice feature.

On Monday I started to notice that after his bottle he was still a little fussy.  So Bill and I decided to try giving him 5 ounces instead of four on Monday night.  He drank all five ounces!  Holy Cow...growing boy!  I thought it would help him sleep longer at night.  He woke up at about 2 in the morning and had another bottle, but he didn't drink all five ounes.  Today he hasn't fully finished a bottle, but he's drinking more than 4 ounces, probably about 4 1/2.  We'll see how he does tonight, maybe he'll sleep a little longer with a little more in his tummy.

He is smiling a lot more, especially when you play with his chin.  Jacob likes to make him smile.  Today while I was feeding Braden, Jacob read him some stories about Winnie the Pooh.  He read him about 4 books and was so proud of himself. He did really well "reading" the stories to Braden.  He definitley has those books memorized, it's really cute to see.  I caught it on video, but I have no idea how to upload that onto this site...maybe I'll try another night when I'm not so tired.

So, until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
