swimming accomplishments

Last night Jacob had his swim class.  He loves going to swim and is now even wearing his goggles regularly.  In fact, yesterday he wore his goggles in the car all the way to the pool.  His goggles were all fogged up by the time we arrived, but he didn't care!

It was a small group yesterday so he got a lot of personal attention.  In the past, his least favorite part about swimming was when the teacher put him on his back to float.  Jacob NEVER got.  He would always stick his legs straight up to the sky or put his head up to see his feet.  Most of the time he just squirmed his way back to his tummy.  Well, yesterday he had a new teacher and this guy was GREAT!  We're still not sure exactly what he did, but he had Jacob floating on his back ALL BY HIMSELF!!!  The teacher completely let go of Jacob and he floated there for almost 5 seconds.  Bill and I were amazed!  Jacob was proud of himself too!  he also was swimming underwater all by himself for quite a distance (a lot farther than he's ever gone).

We are so proud of our little swimmer.  I hope he learns to love the water, but more importantly, that he can save himself if he's ever in a bad situation in the water.  Now we just have to find a pool that we can let him swim in often :)

Potty training continues to go well.  No pee pee accidents in a while now.  We are still struggling with the poo poo, but that's okay.  Yesterday I was afraid that Jacob had a bladder infection because evertime he went to the potty only a little pee would come out and then he would hold his arms up to me and whine and then no more pee came out.  This happened all day long.  Finally at night I asked him if it hurt for him to go pee pee and he said yes.  When we put him to bed, he woke up about 30 mintues later saying he had to go pee pee.  I put him on the potty and again, just a tinkle came out and then he started crying.  He went back to sleep for about another hour and then woke up again saying he had to go pee pee.  This time both Bill and I were in the bathroom with him and I was rubbing his back while Bill was cheering the pee pee that was coming out.  WOW, did a lot of pee come out of him that time.  I think he felt so much better after that because finally his bladder was empty.  I'm still a little concerned about him, but so far today he seems to be fine.  I can't believe how well he is doing with his potty training.  This afternoon he was playing in his room and ran out and went straight to the bathroom and went pee!  What a good boy.  I'm glad he's finally starting to know the sensation before the pee pee comes out...that's progress!

So until next time...mommy and daddy love you!

Weekend Happenings

It seemed like we had a pretty busy weekend and Jacob continued to do great with his potty training.

Saturday morning Jacob and I went to a Build and Grow workshop at Lowes to make a helicopter.  It was a little more involved than I expected, but we had fun hammering pieces together and trying to figure out how the heck to put the helpicopter together.  Jacob had fun decorating "his" creation with the stickers they provided.

Later that afternoon we met up with some friends at the Block at Orange for some bowling fun.  Jacob did pretty well on the bowling alley.  He and his friends, Malaya, Jonah and Alec mostly had fun jumping on the couches and cheering for eachother's good bowing skills.  After bowling we made our way over to Johnny Rockets for some dinner, then the kids ran around outside and before we knew it, it was already 9:30!  Jacob did so well, he didn't have any accidents that day.  He even stayed awake on the way home and did pee pee on the potty when we got home before he went to sleep.  He woke up the next morning with a dry pull up!!!  He slept in his toddler bed for the first time on Saturday night and did great.  He did wake up Sunday morning and climbed out of bed, walked in our room and woke me up!  That was definitely a surprise, but a pleasant one.  I guess we don't have to go get him out of bed anymore!

Sunday we went to church.  I was a little worried about leaving him at Sunday School with only his underwear on, but he did great.  I'm not sure if he went potty there, but again on Sunday he had no pee pee accidents.  Now we still haven't mastered the poo poo, but he does tell us that he has poo poo in his chonies and that he wants to let it go on the potty.  Oh well, makes for a not so fun clean up, but at least he's going poo poo and the clean up isn't that bad...we'll get there eventually.

Nani and Papa came over later to help daddy move Jacob's furniture into this big boy room.  Once all the furniture was moved, he had fun decorating his walls with all the fun Thomas Wall stickers his daddy got him.  Of course he matched up the large, medium, and small Thomas, James and Gordon and put them all in the same area as eachother.  All the stickers are on one wall only.  Despite Bill and me telling him to put stickers on all the walls, all the stickers landed up on one wall. Oh well, it's his room and that's how he wants it.

Because he did so well with no pee pee accidents all weekend, we took him to Yogurtland for an "ice cream" treat.  We met some friends there and he had fun running around the fountain and eating ice cream with his friends.  Sunday night was his first night sleeping in his big boy room and he did great.  I was a little nervous that he might not want to sleep in there, but I think allowing him to help decorate his room helped a lot.  Plus he now has his Thomas sheets and isn't in his "crib" anymore, so he feels like a big boy.  Again, he woke up Monday morning, got out of bed and came into our room to wake me up.  It's kind of strange for us to be woken up by him and not have to go to his room to get him.  He was a good boy and after he woke me up he said he had to go potty, so he ran to the bathroom all by himself, pulled down his pants and got on the potty.  My little baby isn't so much of a baby anymore :(

On Monday morning, he was playing with his dinosaurs in his room while I was getting ready.  He ran into my room and said he had to go potty.  So we both ran to the bathroom, he pulled down his pants, got on the potty and went!!!  I think this was the first time that he actually stopped playing, came to tell me he had to go potty and actually went!  I was so proud of my big boy!

In other news, we are busy getting ready for baby brother, whom is yet to be named.  Daddy and Papa set up baby brother's room on Sunday afternoon.  The furniture looks great in his room.  I spent some of this afternoon cleaning out the closet in preparation for the little one's arrival.  I didn't realize how much clothing Jacob never wore, mostly because it was the wrong size for the season.  I'm hoping this little guy is able to take advantage of that clothing!  All I really need to do is wash his bedding, hang a couple of Mickey plaques, and put up the valance and the room is ready!  I know he won't be in his room for a while, but it's ready for him when he's ready to sleep in his crib.  The bassinet is out and ready for him too.  I guess you can say, I'm starting the nesting phase, but I still have 2 months to go!

Okay, that's all the updating so far...

so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!!!

Tanaka Farms and more potty training

Posted By: Melissa 0 Comments

this morning Jacob, mommy and daddy went to Tanaka Farms for a tour of their farm and watermelon picking.  Jacob was VERY excited to go pick out a watermelon, especially since that is his favorite fruit right now.  Fortunately, the weather was really nice, a bit warm but there was a nice breeze.  Daddy was so cool and he took the day off to join us on our trip with our other friends. Jacob had a great time riding in the cart pulled by the tractor.  He tasted the radishes and did not like them (they were a little spicy) and had a carrot, but the best part for him was the watermelon tasting.  I think he ate about a quarter of a watermelon all by himself and his shirt and neck had some of it too!  Then he was able to go out onto the farm and pick out a watermelon.  He carried his watermelon all the way back.  He also enjoyed being sprayed by the water bottle on the way back to the starting point.  Mommy started by spraying his hands, then his chest and eventually made her way up to his face...that was his favorite part.  He must have had me spray him about 20 times in the face!

Jacob woke up this morning in a very good mood and went pee pee in the potty first thing in the morning.  He went again before we left for the farm.  Then daddy took him to the port-a-potty (GROSS) before we went on the farm tour.  He even went there!!!  Guess what?!?!  We had NO pee pee accidents today! Momm and daddy were SO excited for him!  He did have one accident because he went poo poo in his pants this afternoon at home.  I was getting a little worried about him since he really had not gone since we started his potty training on Sunday.  He has a tendency to get constipated and I think his tummy was beginning to hurt him.  I decided to just let him poop in his pants, just to get it out.  Once he gets really comfortable going pee, then I will work on the poop.  I would rather him poop his pants than get constipated at this point.  We both talked to him about going poo poo in the potty and how good it will feel when he does that.  But, focusing on the positive, everytime we put him on the potty he went.  I can't believe it's been 5 days and he was already accident free!  Woo-Hoo!

To celebrate, we went to dinner with grandma and grandpa (or in Jacob's language...moo-maw and poo-paw).  Jacob was a good boy in the restaurant and was bragging to his grandma and grandpa about how he went pee pee in the potty.  After dinner mommy and daddy took him to get chocolate ice cream and MnMs at Baskin Robbins.  He was such a good boy today (despite his 45 minute crying fit when he woke up from his nap, but I think that was due to his tummy not feeling well.  Once he pooped it out, he was in a MUCH better mood).

We are praying for continued success on the potty!  We are so proud of his accomplishments so far and so is he!

So until next time..mommy and daddy love you and are so proud of you!!!
