Braden's 4 month checkup

Posted By: Melissa 0 Comments

Our baby is already 4 months old.  I still can't believe how fast time is going.  He has brought more joy to our lives than we ever could have imagined.  He continues to be such a good baby.  He is sleeping through the night for the most part.  He has his nights when he wakes up, but I can't complain.  Yesterday Jacob and I took Braden to his doctor's appointment.  He was all smiles when the nurse weighed him in.  He is 16 lbs 12oz and is 26 inches long.  He has grown 2 inches in the last two months!  He is 4lbs heavier and 1/4 inch longer than Jacob was at this age. He definitely likes to eat!  He was such a good boy during his appointment, despite all the spitup which the doctor says is totally normal and will start to subside now and hopefully be totally gone by 6 months, lets hope because the laundry is out of control!  He has hit all of his milestones execpt rollying over.  Dr. Koutures said we should give him more tummy time to allow him to roll over faster.  He got two shots and had one vaccination given orally.  He didn't cry that much with his shots.  Jacob was standing over him saying "it's okay Braden" while the nurse stuck him.

After the appointment we were on our way to Angel's Stadium to buy tickets for Jacob and daddy and others to go to Monster Jam.  Jacob was so excited as we pulled into Angel's Stadium.  He remembered going to the Angel game with daddy.  He asked me if I remembered that daddy took him there "yesterday".  For Jacob anything that happened in the past is "yesterday".

When we got home both boys took a long nap with mommy (and daddy ended up joining us too).  Jacob hasn't been feeling too well, so a nap for him was much needed.  I have found that Braden sleeps much better and longer at night when he takes a good nap during the day.  It's hard to do that when Jacob has us running around iwth his busy schedule, so when I can stay home in the afternoon I take advantage and put him down for a good nap. Jacob had a fever the other day which completely freaks me out, so for the past two nights he was sleeping in our bed.  Does not make for a comfortable nights sleep for either daddy or me, but at least I had a close eye on him all night long.

Jacob is done with his physical therapy.  Last Friday was his last session.  He made some progress.  He went from 0 flexiblity in his foot to about 5-10 percent, not great, but an improvement nonetheless and we'll take it.  Daddy and I are supposed to be stretching him everyday, but I have to admit we haven't done it everyday.  We have to get better at stretching him everyday so his problem improves instead of gets worse.  I don't want him to have any long term effects from all of this.

We are going to try and stay low this week so that Jacob can get back to 100% by the weekend.

So until next time...mommy and daddy love you, our growing boys!

Braden's Nursery and Pictures

Last night, Sunday, January 10th, Braden slept in his crib for the first time.  He has been sleeping in his bassinet next to our bed for the last 3 1/2 months.  I just read the label on the bassinet and it said the weight limit is 15 lbs (Braden is over that) and that babies should be under 3 months old.  Besides that, he is basically the length of the bassinet, so I knew it was time to get him into his crib, but I was avoiding doing just that.  So last night we decided that it was the night to make the move.

Jacob has been wanting to sleep in our room and I figured out it was because Braden was also in our room.  So last night before bed time I told Jacob that Braden was going to sleep in his baby room, Jacob was going to sleep in his big boy room and mommy and daddy were going to sleep in their room.  Jacob was so funny, as we walked up the stairs, I was walking behind him with Braden in my arms and he immediately walked into Bradens room and pointed and said "He goes in here mommy."  I was heading toward our room to get Braden's blanket out of the bassinet and as I entered Braden's room, Jacob had already turned on his froggy music and told me where to put Braden (in the crib of course).  So Jacob saw me lay Braden down in the crib and then Jacob was satisfied with the results and quickly went into his room.  This was the first time in about a month that Jacob has willingly, without crying, fell asleep in his own room.  I think he was a little jealous that Braden was with mommy and daddy.  This has been the only real sign of jealously from Jacob and with all thing considered, I'm impressed with Jacob.

Braden was sort of asleep when I layed him in the crib.  He did wake up and cry a little, so I went in his room and put the pacifier back in his mouth.  He stirred and cried (just a little) for about 15 minutes and then he was sound asleep.  He probably fell asleep at around 8pm and slept the entire night and woke up at about 7:15 in the morning (this was his 4th night in a row sleeping through the night).  I did have to go in there twice, once at 4am and once at 6am to put the pacifier back in his mouth, but other than that he slept peacefully like a little angel in his crib.  Jacob did pretty well too, but he did come into our room sometime early in the morning, not sure what time that was.

I will admit it was nice to have our room back again to ourselves, but it did feel a little strange.  I was glued to the video monitor until I finally fell asleep, but I woke up several times at night to check the monitor :)  I guess that's just how I work :)

Today daddy had the day off, but Jacob was coughing a lot so we decided just to lay low.  We did have the boys pictures taken, Braden's 3 month pictures and Jacob's 3 year pictures.  They both did so well.  Braden was all smiles for the photographer, unfortunately, the photographer wasn't able to capture all the smiles on film.  Jacob did very well too, but some of his pictures he had a bit of a fake smile.  All in all, the pictures turned out great and we are pleased.

Both boys are asleep in their rooms right now and it's looking to be another peaceful night in the Roberts' house.

so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
