First Swim Lesson

What a bad mommy/blogger I've become.  It's been well over a month since our last post and so much has happened, but I was too tired to write about it.  Now that I'm into the second trimester of the pregnancy, my energy level is slowly coming back, thank goodness.

Jacob had his first swim lesson (without mommy or daddy) today.  It was just him and the teacher and he did surprisingly well.  We started the process on Monday with a half hour "evaluation" and it took him a good 5 minutes just to get into the pool with the teacher.  He did well, but cried for me everytime he looked on the deck and saw me.  Tonight was TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!

He immediately went to the steps of the pool and stepped in.  He played with the swim toys for a couple of minutes and then the teacher took him for a swim.  His little legs were kicking away from the very start.  He "swam" two lengths of the pool and then got a break.  After his break, the teacher had him jump in the pool, from sitting on the deck.  He jumped in, without going under water two times and then the third time, he went under water and had a smile on his face when he came up.  When he came back to the stairs, the teacher had him "swim" underwater to the stairs.  I was amazed that he actually used his arms to push himself up above water and onto the stairs!  Each time the teacher did this, he was farther and farther away from the stairs.  Of course, he was really close to the stairs, but for his first time, daddy and I were VERY impressed.  He jumped in from standing a couple of times and went underwater and a few times the teacher let go of him for a second and then helped him out of the water.  Jacob never cried and really seemed to enjoy himself.  After a few minutes of teaching time, Jacob got to play on the steps with the toys.  He got a little adventurous and put some rockets on the bottom stair, stuck his head in the water and got them all by himself.  I could not believe my eyes...he was doing this all on his own without anyone asking him to do so.  Holy Moly, this kid likes putting his head underwater.  His teacher saw him do this, so Giovanni, the teacher, put goggles on Jacob (which he didn't mind) and put the rocket at the bottom of the pool (3 1/2  feet) and pushed Jacob down to retrieve the rockets...and guess what, Jacob did it!  You could see the feeling of accomplishment on his face when he came out of the water.  Daddy and I were so proud of him. We really did not expect him to do so much on his first lesson.  At the end of the lesson, Jacob cried when we got him out of the pool...all he kept saying was "more swim, more swim", sadly though his time was up.  We are so excited to see what's in store for Jacob in future lessons.  We are happy to know that he is not afraid of the water, but know that we really have to watch him now when he's near water.  He's a little too comfortable with the water right now.

As soon as we download pictures to the computer, we'll post them on the website.

So until next time...mommy and daddy love you, little fish!
