Legoland and Paramedics
Monday, May 18th we took Jacob to Legoland for the first time. Our plan was to spend two days in San Diego with our family friends, the Csupaks. Monday we were to go to Legoland and Tuesday we were going to spend at the Wild Animal Park. Well, plans changed a little, but more on that later.
We got up early and made our way to Legoland to be there when the park opened. Bill and I were both very impressed with the park and Jacob had a great time. There were a couple of rides that he actually rode by himself. Those were the first rides he's been on by himself and I know from the expression on his face that he truly enjoyed it. Most of the rides he went on with his daddy because for some reason they wouldn't let pregnant mommies on some of the kiddie rides. I know daddy and Jacob enjoyed their time together. Jacob was a GOOD BOY the whole day, even without a nap. He enjoyed going on the rides and even seeing the minature legoland buildings...those were truly amazing. He wanted to walk most of the time and was really good about listening to us and holding our hand when he needed to. I hope the days of strollers are not coming to an end because I don't know how we will deal with one kid out of the stroller and another in the stroller, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. We left Legoland when they closed so we were there the WHOLE day. We checked in at our hotel and rested for a little bit. I think the parents were more tired than the kids. Then we were off to dinner. Jacob was a good boy at dinner too, but didn't want to eat anything. We should have saw a sign there for what was later to come, but we just thought he was tired and had too many snacks. Actually come to think of it, he really didn't eat a whole lot the entire day.
When we got back from dinner, he fell right to sleep. He slept on his Cars air mattress and was out like a light. Then at 4:00 in the morning, I heard some wierd noises. So, I got up to check on Jacob and there he was having another seizure. Gosh! here we go again. This one lasted about 4-5 minutes (I'm not sure how long he was seizing before I heard him, but something tells me I caught it right when it started). Bill was with him the whole time as I was getting him wet wash cloths to cool him down. After it ended we put him on the bed and he was still sleeping, and not responding to anything Bill was saying to him...we thought this was a little unusual. I called his doctor's office exchange and told her what happened and then his hands and feet started to twitch. She told us we should probably call 911...so there we are 4:30 in the morning calling 911 making a big commotion in the hotel, though I don't think anyone heard anything. When the paramedics got there, they got Jacob's stats and said he was doing fine. It was normal for him to be out of it for anywhere from 45-60 minutes after the seizure. The paramedic felt comfortable leaving him with us at the hotel with no need to go to the hospital. His temperature was only 100.2 which I though was a little unusual since it was so low, but they didn't think anything of it. The firefighter asked Jacob to give him a high five and poor little thing, he could barely move his hand to give him the high five. That scared me, but the firefighter assured us that that was actually normal and he was actually looking really good for just having as seizure. By the time the paramedics were leaving Jacob had "woken up" and told his daddy "I want to go to Disneyland" We knew then that he was okay.
We ended up leaving San Diego that morning so that we could watch him at home. When we got home at 9:30 he had no fever, which again we thought was kind of wierd. Usually after his seizures it takes a day or so for his fever to break. We ended up taking him to the doctor and the doctor was a little concerned that his temperature was so low after the seizure. The doctor ended up ordering an EEG to rule out anyother causes of the seizure.
It is now Monday (almost a week later) and just two day ago he finally came down with a little runny nose and cough. This morning his cough was a little worse and he looks so tired, but he's still running around like his typical self. I hope he is feeling better soon so he can play with his friends again. And I pray that the EEG shows nothing serious. I can live with febrile seizures, now that we know what they are. We don't like to see them, but at least we know it's nothing serious.
so until next time...mommy and daddy love you!
