Pulling up and eating toast
Posted by Missy Roberts at 10:56 PM About Jake
Today is Uncle RJ's birthday. We called him today and had Jacob leave him a message...it was mostly heavy breathing:) We will see him on Sunday to wish him a happy birthday in person!
Yesterday afternoon daddy lowered Jacob's mattress in his crib. He is beginning to hold on to things and pull himself up. He mainly holds on to mommy or daddy to pull himself up...well actually he likes to try to pull himself up on us when we are lying on the floor playing with him so that he can climb all over us. He is so cute to watch when he is trying to pull himself up. When he finally stands up, he has a look of accomplishment on his face. He is so proud of himself and we are cheering for him so that makes him happy too! Last night daddy and Jacob had daddy/son time. I went to dinner with friends to celebrate Alesxa's birthday. When I left the boys, Jacob was climbing all over his daddy and his daddy was loving it. While at dinner mommy found out that Jacob's Auntie Jenn is going to have another little boy in January:) Yeah, another boy for Jacob to play with. Mommy was really hoping Auntie Jenn would have a girl, but a boy is great. Now little Cooper will have a buddy to play with all the time.
Tonight after Jacob's dinner of mixed veggies I tried giving him some toast so that he can start learning to feed himself and chew. When I gave it to him, he was playing with the piece for a little while, banging it on the high chair. I only gave him half and used the other half showed him how mommy eats it. I showed him a few times and then he finally put his piece toward his mouth. It is funny because anything else he grabs goes directly to his mouth, everything but food. Silly boy! So when he first put it in his mouth he wasn't quite sure what to do with it. It was crumbling off onto his lips and he sort of didn't like it. So he played with it a little more and then stuck it back in his mouth and started gnawing on it. Then he really got the hang of it. By the time he had half of his portion left, he shoved the whole thing in his mouth (now that is him acting just like his daddy). I was a little worried about him choking so I kept an extra close eye on him. But I saw his little mouth moving to try to break it up so he could swallow. Eventually he either broke it up on his own or it just dissolved in his mouth. When it was all over there was pieces of the stuff everywhere. The highchair tray was filthy and so were his hands face, so adorable though. of course I caught it all on video and snapped a couple of pictures of him shoving the toast into his mouth. Then I tried giving him some water in a sippy cup, but all he did was hold the cup and bang it against the high chair. I guess I was a little over eager with trying new things today, so I'll wait a couple more days to give him the sippy cup again. I just thought it would be nice for him to wash down his toast with a refreshing sippy cup of water:) Oh well, I guess I can't try too many things at one time!
He is definitely crawling into everything now. We have to watch him like a hawk when he's on the floor. He loves to be in his daddy's office because there are so many fun things to see in there. He was fascinated with the trash can today and if he sees a cord he heads straight toward it. So I don't think he will be playing in daddy's office anymore. He's pretty good playing on the floor by himself downstairs with his toys. I put all his toys in a basket in the middle of the room. He crawls to it, tips the basket over and pulls out all his toys and usually goes after this blue elephant that rattles. It seems to be his favorite this week. He's also learned to push on one of his cubes to make it quack like a duck. He also likes to play with any shoes left on the floor. Today he was fascinated with his daddy's stinky tennis shoe. He was playing with the shoe string and when I picked him up, he held on tight to that shoe string so that the shoe came with us. Crazy kid. He did much better with his bottles today. He didn't give either one of us a hard time with any of his bottles today....yippee! I hope this is a trend that continues. Alright, I'm tired and am going to try to get some sleep...so until next time, mommy and daddy love you!
